Baltimore’s Bandhunta Izzy Drops New Mixtape ‘Code Blue’

Bandhunta Izzy

Baltimore-based and tattoo-covered beat-spitter Bandhunta Izzy just dropped his new mixtape “Code Blue.” The mixtape project has 13 verse-heavy tracks that really showcase Izzy’s hard-earned talent of transforming a rap verse into a production, into a song. The mixtape features many, from Izzy’s brother to other peers like Key Glock, Peewee Longway, and Young Crazy.

Bandhunta Izzy’s ‘In Love Wit Tha Trap’ Visual

For one track in particular, Izzy released a music video. The idea behind the song is quite simple, actually. Izzy was in Atlanta working on it’s production when he heard a beat that made him think of the old times back in the day. He took that idea and went with it, ultimately singing “Damn near fell in love with the trap / Stayed out all night for a good ass reason.”

The video for the song begins on a different note, though. Izzy is shown talking with a younger kid, telling him to stay straight and not go down the wrong path. He advises “If you don’t gotta do it, don’t do it. You gon’ go down the wrong way and get left.” Izzy opens up about his mother leaving him and his siblings when he was a teenager and where his life led after that, and he hopes the kid can live a better life.

On Open-mindedness and Branching Out

Up until now, Izzy’s music had all been about similar topics and concepts. Izzy learned a lot within the past years of fame because he has been traveling to a lot of the big U.S. cities and felt that it’s turned him into a more open-minded person, more willing and inspired to change up his writing style and technique. “Code Blue” is his first mixtape where he really has been able to branch out and delve into his past experiences and how they’ve shaped him and his music. Through this album, Izzy has opened up a lot more about what he’s been through and therefore he’s been able to switch up his music style a bit and find more out about who he really is, as a person and as a musician.

Bandhunta Izzy didn’t grow up listening to rap music actually, because his dad wouldn’t let him. His dad was trying to steer his children on the right path, and rap music was more of a rebellious one. Nonetheless, Izzy and his brother always saw the other neighborhood guys rapping and stuff, so naturally they caught on. Not only did they love it, but they were good at it, too. Izzy would spend all his time in class being artistic, drawing and such, instead of paying attention. He fostered his right side brain to create the rhymes and beats that got him where he is today — a 21 year old Baltimore rapper steadily rising in the rap nation day by day, song by song.
