Faulkner Find Their Alt-Rock Sound on ‘PARIAHS’

Alt-rock group Faulkner just released their debut album PARIAHS with the help of hip-hop royalty. Blending together classing punk feelings into an alternative soundscape with a dash of pop, Faulkner truly carve out their own space in the crowded world of music.

Out February 9, the band recorded the album at Rick Rubin’s Shangri La and East-West studios. Working with producer RZA, JP Bowersock (who’s worked with The Strokes), and Mark Needham (previously worked with The Killers), the 10-track album finds a whole new sound that crosses everything that makes alt-rock and pop great.

The latest single, “Hot Streak,” features this cross of pop and alt-rock in a clear and easy to hear way. With a pop-influenced chorus filled with synth-heavy melodies and throbbing bass lines, it’s hard not to pay attention to the Faulkner sound. The high energy track captures the untouchable feeling of the hottest hip-hop stars and iconic rockers who have come to produce in an infectious-feeling way. You can’t help but want to listen to “Hot Streak” over and over again.

Faulkner is also one of the only bands to have collaborations with two major rappers, let alone both on their debut album. The help of Wu-Tang mastermind RZA co-writing, producing, and featuring on the track, the once unfinished demo of “NY Anthem” turned into a catchy rock ballad that captured hip-hop and rock fans alike. “NY Anthem” even found some airplay on sporting outlets like ESPN, loved by the NFL, U.S. Open, and N.Y. Yankee’s home games, and on the iconic KROQ. Nothing short of impressive for a band’s debut.

The band also grabbed the attention of Royce Da 5’9” who hopped on board to co-write and feature on “Keep Your Enemies Closer.” The funky track featured ’80s feeling synth bass lines crossed with the flow of Royce Da 5’9″.
