Sometimes all it takes to push a musician forward is a little encouragement from some of their idols. On the other side, many of the bigger stars in the music world are more than happy to speak with and offer advice to up and coming artists. They were in that position once too and can share their experiences, just reach out to your influences and don’t be in awe, be real. It is appreciated and that is what seemed to help an artist I met recently on her path to success. Let me introduce you to Jaye Drew.
Jaye Drew is an indie singer-songwriter with an R&B flair hailing from Portland, Maine. She has been perfecting her craft for a long while around the northeast outdoor circuit. She found a mentor at a young age in Lisa Gallant Seal. Lisa was better known for fronting biker bands and performing at motorcycle rallies than the singer-songwriter crowd but she saw something special in Jaye Drew’s sultry voice. At this young age Jaye reached out to two of her major influences, Jack Johnson and Ben Harper. Harper ended up leaving a lengthy voice message regarding Jaye’s talents as a singer-songwriter, noting that the disc was in rotation in his car, “It’s better than 99% of the stuff out there…girl’s got talent.” Jack Johnson she met face to face who described her voice as “amazing.” These encouraging words lifted Jaye Drew’s motivation and drive to new heights knowing that she was as good as she thought she was.
Much music was written with the quality group of musicians Jaye assembled to put together her debut album A Moving Train. The group garnered some attention but the album was not promoted since the group disbanded shortly after the album’s release. Now with the enthusiasm of becoming the #1 indie artist on Reverb Nation from Portland, Maine, Jaye drew is ready to put out a new album that will include several new tracks and a few songs present on the original version. New artwork, a new title and a few extras will be included as well. A few tracks have been made available as a preview. ‘Trouble And Time’ is a rolling bluesy song that introduces Jaye’s strong yet sultry voice. The piano infused ‘Crime Of Passion’ leads the listener through a chilling tale while truly phenomenal musicianship is featured. On Fallow Ground’ you are grabbed right away by the vocals and drawn in to mellow yet attractive song. Overall I am excited to hear the rest of the album when it comes out in 2013.
