Preview of Slothrust’s LP Everyone Else

Slothrust

Rock band Slothrust is coming out with their long awaited third album, Everyone Else, on October 28 and we got hold of some of the new tracks just released for the world to preview.

The three piece band is made out of singer and guitarist Leah Wellbaum, Kyle Bann (bass), and Will Gorin (drums). The three all attended Sarah Lawrence College and studied the music of jazz and blues.  But don’t get too exited jazz and blues lovers, Everyone Else’s sound falls completely under the rock genre. No relaxing  to the this penetrating indie rock album.

Are You a Horseshoe Crab?

In “Horseshoe crab” you can hear the jazz influence in the beginning, but Wellbaum’s vocals deliver the lyrics clearly and precisely, with a conversational indie rock momentum. Slothrust brings you lyrics front and center before their long dominating instrumental break. As the track continues Wellbaum’s voice moves to a dominating, confident rhythm.“Sometimes I feel like I’m a seahorse / Sometimes I think that I’m a horseshoe crab.” Everyone wonders what makes them special. Sometimes you just can’t find the answer.

“Like A Child Hiding Behind Your Tombstone” starts off strong as the dark lyrics take you back into Slothrust’s twisted world. Many of the lyrics from these two tracks are reflective of how someone can feel. Sometimes comparing yourself to animals and creatures of the depths gives the best perspective. “I feel like a fetus, because my eyes are not open.” In this tune, Slothrust also brings a strong instrumental break that helps the lyrics deliver a strong message. You paint pictures in your head without event trying.

Slothrust Delivered, and Now We Wait

In the past Slothrust had more of ’90s rock vibe through their sound. “People have always had trouble comparing us to other bands, but someone recently described us as Nirvana meets Wynton Marsalis, and I loved that,” said vocalist Wellbaum. Everyone Else gives the band more independence to their sound and a strong look at their lyricism. On October 28, you too can enter the artistically dark but honest world of Everyone Else. Slothrust’s US tour begins October 13 in Saint Louis, Missouri.
