WEAK13 is back with a different kind of shock

WEAK13 loyal coward

Some bands will always keep me on edge with their direction. Creating art can be shocking sometimes and I prefer not being able to tell what’s coming next. We have been keeping an eye on the independent British band WEAK13 for a while now. And they never cease to impress.

We first covered WEAK13 with their controversial music video for the song “Joke” (check it out our review HERE). There were some interesting issues raised and some individuals feelings may have been hurt. That is the power of music though. Inspire and make people think.

The truly DIY band has been inspiring fresh upcoming bands with their strong anti-mainstream message, manic self-funded music videos, and never shy away form an issue attitude for years. The scene is bubbling up and ready to explode again. And now WEAK13 have announced their brand new music video release for ‘Loyal Coward’ off their album They Live. Like clockwork, they prepare their annual middle finger which has become almost a tradition.

From the start ‘Loyal Coward’ seems like a pretty regular rock song (for them). Even with the slight commercial feel there is a lot going on in the lyrics and the accompanying music video. The video us set in the Age of The Vikings featuring the Svartland Living History Society. who hail from Wordsley, West Midlands. It creates some great imagery.

The Mindfuck continues with WEAK13

Even with the more laid back acoustic instrument medley, there is some ‘freak’ in the sound. WEAK13 manages to keep it exotic with a strong drumbeat picking up the pace. The vocal style of Nick J Townsend always creates an element of danger as well.

In the end “Loyal Coward” is more of a drinking anthem than the anti-alcohol vibe that it first gave off. Quite the U-turn but would you expect anything else from these guys?
