Bellicose Puts Some ‘Mental Wealth’ in Your Account

Here at Indie Band Guru we cover all styles of music as long as there is passion behind it. This musical appreciation has led us to amazing discoveries from every corner of the musical genre map. It is tough to find musicians with more raw passion than in the hardcore and metalcore scenes. Our latest discovery from that genre is the powerful Bellicose.

The group was formed in 2023 with talented members from various parts of NYC. Rakeem John Washington, Lee Seeben, Rich Williams, and Sean L. joined for a shared love of the NYHC scene and the community around it. Together as Bellicose they provide a metalcore/hardcore sound that comes at you hard and fast. Influences can be heard from a wide variety of bands including Bad Brains, Madball, Sick of It All, and Poison The Well.

With their debut EP Modern Mammal now out, Bellicose is ready to let their raw power be heard. Lead single “Mental Wealth” is a great introduction. The song is an exploration of mental instability, grief, and the emotional toll of unreciprocated help. A good life comes at a cost, hard work, but Bellicose is no stranger to that.

The track opens with grinding guitars and pounding drums right from the start. The salvo of power will get your attention quickly. Hard vocals then join the attack from multiple sources. Bellicose is a team effort from every aspect. There is no straight ahead (boring) work here. The band keeps you guessing where they will go next with musical shifts at any point they see fit. This mirrors the feeling of turmoil and  losing control that they are trying to get across. Powerful song that will leave you wanting more.

Keep up with more from Bellicose HERE.
