G Clef Fusion Dives Deeper on ‘Geryon Claque Fermata’

In Geryon Claque Fermata, Chuck Moyer—known as G Clef Fusion–invites listeners into a nuanced journey of instrumental fusion that spans jazz, rock, and electronic sounds. With this third album, Chuck explores the world deeper and becomes more contemplative, exploring themes of identity, perception, and the number three. But more on that later.

The title Geryon Claque Fermata captures the album’s symbolism. It comes from the Greek mythological figure Geryon–a creature with three heads, and also mimics the triadic “Me, Myself, and I.”

The album is a mixture of composition and improvisation, demonstrating G Clef Fusion’s instrumental prowess. He makes an unusual choice for his compositions: a keytar. This laces each track with uniqueness and lets the artist approach his vision without compromise.

Dive into Geryon Claque Fermata here:

“Anaglyph of the Soul” is a progressive piece that forces you to sit back and reflect. Complex chord structures are there to mirror the complexities of life. How can a moment of calm become chaotic almost within a blink? Despite the lack of lyrics, there’s no loss of emotion. G Clef Fusion manages to convey everything with just sound–no need to let words tell a story when the listener can make up their own.

Continuing with the theme of letting the music do the talking, “Pop Music Kills Brain Cells” acts as a release for the artist, venting his frustration at mainstream culture. The piece is complicated, on the other end of the spectrum to what you hear on the radio, and that’s for a purpose. He wants to challenge listeners to stay attentive and realise that music doesn’t have to be formulaic to be compelling,

G Clef Fusion closes the album with “When Shall We Three Meet Again?” The “three” in question could mean the mind, body, and soul, the artist, music, and listener, or something else entirely. It’s up to you to decide. Closing the album with such a track leaves the listener questioning. It’s an open invitation to go away, ponder, and come back again. Maybe that’s the “three” Chuck’s going for…

Geryon Claque Fermata is more than a collection of songs. It’s a layered experience of sound, symbolism, and personal experience. The artistry of G Clef Fusion shines through, creating a profound piece that challenges you to pump the breaks and just listen.
