IBG Interview – 8 Questions With… Fella Manero

There is no more exciting time for an artist than release day of a new single. All the creativity and hard work is let out into the world for all to hear. That day has come for new friend Fella Manero.

We caught up with the intricate songwriter for a chat about his growth and his new song ‘Aruanda’. Enjoy the interview here:

What is it that first drew you to creating music?

First was the wish to say something that could reach more people and then was because when I sing or play the guitar the time just flows by. So I realized that is the right thing to do.

How would you describe the Fella Manero sound?

It is a transcendental sound, with spiritual lyrics. If you delve into the meanings and realize what I am trying to say, you will be taken to another realm.

Which artists have had the biggest influence on you?

I have lots of artists that I like, Lisa Hannigan, Bahamas, Jeremy Loops, Mathew Mole, Iron and Wine, all of them I really like the rhythm and the texture of their work. Not really about the lyrics though , for that I look other artists from Brazil that inspire me, such as Chandra Lacombe, Dois Sois, Peia mixed with spiritual meanings and mantras.

In the beginning I really loved the storytellers such as Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and then I migrate to these others.

How does a song come to you? Tell us about your songwriting process?

Each song is different, sometimes the melody comes first, and then the lyrics. And after a few days I change the arrangement too… Sometimes I have something that I wrote as a poem and is in a sheet of paper with other written thoughts. After years, I go back to them and make some changes and create a song for it… So, really is not a fixed method. But somehow it works.

We hear you have a new single coming on August 13th. What can you tell us about it?

Yes, this new song is about a spiritual city called ‘Aruanda’. I really don’t know how I wrote it, it was super fast and it came like a dream. It speaks of entities from other Kingdoms, such as Yemanjá, Captain Lirio Branco and all the children of Aruanda.

What do you hope the listener takes away from your music?

Its a song to reflect on.

Share some advice for other artists navigating the music industry?

Don’t worry about the results, the process is all that matters. All you can do is to strive to do the best as you can, the rest is not in your hands. You can check the song Ar in my site that talks a lot about it.

Give us a look at the future of Fella Manero?

I will release in November/ December a EP with 5 songs called Samsara. There will be songs about sorrow and relationships that ended. This is Samsara. When you realize you can be free from it you attain Moksha.
