IBG Interview – 7 Questions With… Hatch

Once the fire of music grabs you it never really lets go. This passion can continue for a lifetime. It certainly has for our recent discovery Hatch. The genre-exploring songwriter has recently released his debut album See Me. We caught up with Hatch and found out what got him to where he is today. Enjoy the interview below:

First off, what led to the name Hatch?

My last name is Hatchell and over the years people have developed Hatch as a nickname for me

Your music goes in many directions. How would you describe your sound?

Versatile.  My influences have varied over the years so when I write, there’s a wide range of genres that come pouring out. I don’t write in specific genres, and truly I wouldn’t know where to classify most of my songs.

Which artists have had the biggest influence on you?

80’s Rock and Metal bands have influenced me the most. However, I have certainly taken a large influential input from the 90’s rock bands.  Alice in Chains was always one of my top bands.

You have been making music for quite a while. What keeps the fire burning within you?

This is hard to answer, as I don’t do anything to keep the fire burning.  It just burns, and always has.  From as far back as I can remember, I loved music and the instruments that created the music.

Your debut album See Me has a wide variety of genres. Tell us about the process of making the record?

This record was recorded in about 10 hours, spanning across 5 days.  Most of the songs on the album had been written within a few months of the album’s creation.  I just woke up one day and decided I was going to create my first album.  I compiled several musical “ideas” that I had worked on over the years, and before I knew it, I had created 5 new songs.  2 of the songs had been previously written years before, but I knew it was time to bring them on board as well (Reminder and See Me).  The recording went fast, because it had to, as I was on a budget.  In the end, I’m happy with the outcome of the album.  I do wish, however, that I could’ve added more of my songs to the album, but that’s the future to come.

What advice would you have for other up and coming stars?

Stick to your guns. You know who you are and what you want to do. Stay true to yourself.

What is on the horizon for Hatch?

New music to come! As soon as the $ is there, I have 10 more songs ready to go for the next album and I can’t wait to get back in the studio!

Have a listen and purchase the See Me album on BANDCAMP and CD BABY
