IBG Interview – 8 Questions With… Heidi Anne

Contrary to the average music fan’s belief, there is no such thing as an overnight success in the music business. It takes years of hard work to break through. Our friend Heidi Anne has been at it for a while and shows that persistence pays off.

We had the chance to chat with the talented singer as her new single/video “Shadow Crimes” was just released. Enjoy the interview

First off, what is it that draws you to create music?

I’m a very arty person and always have been. Sometimes I’ll just listen to a great track and I’ll just know I want it to go. I can just hear it.

How would you describe the Heidi Anne sound?

Someone once described my sound as having ‘Aguilera’s highs and Toni Braxton’s lows with beautiful intonation’, which was a great complement. But I would say I am very much an RNB/ Soul singer. I like to sing with passion and focus on the story telling – emotion is important.

Which artists have had the biggest influence on you?

Where do I start?  Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Beverly Knight, JoJo, Leona Lewis, Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Boys2Men

When your career was first getting started how were you able to connect with the likes of T-Pain, Lil Wayne and Rick Ross?

I was working with a Licensing/Production Agency from L.A. and they secured the project for me. There were many artists that tried out for it, I’m just lucky I got picked.

What is your songwriting process? How does a song come together for you?

I will listen to beautiful music, and I’ll use my imagination to see where it takes me. For instance, ‘Shadow Crimes’ to me sounded very mysterious, so I then created a concept around that

‘Shadow Crimes’ by Heidi Anne Ft. Carlprit

Tell us about your latest single “Shadow Crimes”.

I have been working on an album with a German Producer for the last few years. His name is George Stapel. Carlprit decided he also wanted to collaborate with us and that’s how we came up with Shadow Crimes. Generally the feedback has been great however, it would be great if we could push it more.

Share some advice for other artists trying to make a name for themselves in the new dance-pop music scene.

My mani advice would be perseverence and hard work. But also STAY INDEPENDENT.

How does the future look for Heidi Anne?

I have been in the music industry quite some time now and honestly, I think/hope things are looking up. It takes a long time and a long graft to get somewhere but it is do-able. I have lots of exciting plans up my sleeve and can’t wait to work on even more music.
