IBG Interview – 8 Questions With… Homicide Doll

As we grow as musicians we realize that the best way to connect with an audience is to just be ourselves. Our recent discovery Homicide Doll has gone through some changes and is here to put out music into the world that is purely and unapologetically his.

We caught up with the musician for a chat about his growth and purpose. Enjoy the interview here:

First off, tell us about the name Homicide Doll?

Homicide doll is my fourth artist name and my final one. I’ve been trying to find a name that no one else has so when you look it up you’ll see my music. But the way I came up with this name is honestly the imagery of killing someone or something. So I’ve been played by many people in life and they’ve killed bits of pieces of me. So that’s where the name comes from.

How would you describe your sound?

It’s hard for me to describe my sound. I go from different genres all the time and try to release something different every time. But if I was going to really bring it down to one specific thing about me is I’m just a kid wanting help and I’m screaming, and crying in my music. It’s just a lot of pain and thoughts that are put into this sad music.

Which artists have influenced Homicide Doll?

I’ve only had two influences for music and they are ghostemane, and motionless in white. They are the artist that made me really want to pursue this dream of making music for a living. Amazing artist in my opinion and they keep me motivated.

Tell us about your songwriting process? How does a song come together for you?

The writing process isn’t anything special. I’ll put on a beat and just write to it. I’ll just write about how I feel or I’ll mention something from a book I read that day. It’s a pretty simple thing. I’ll write, record, and then master it in fl studio

It seems that you are open about your own personal struggles in your music. Has that freedom affected you?

From the beginning I knew I just wanted to be open about anything and everything. I have nothing to hide and I feel that really helps my music get more listeners. I want people to understand how I feel the best way I can. This hasn’t affected me at all. If anything it’s made me feel a lot better about everything since this is basically a therapy session just put into music.

What do you hope the listener will take away from your music?

I just want someone to understand how I feel and see that I’m here and I have a voice. I’ve had moments where I couldn’t say how I felt to people about something or just how I felt on the inside so I just put that into music. I’m basically saying just find an escape from the thoughts with music, art, or whatever you like to do. Days will get worse but there will still be better days. That’s what I want them to take away from my music.

Share some advice for other artists creating unique music?

Do your own thing. If no one likes it then who cares. As long as you like what you put out there is someone else who will appreciate it. If your making music like mine then expect to be at the bottom for a while cause no one likes the shit I do. That’s the best advice I can give.

Give us a look at the future of Homicide Doll?

The future for me is hopefully a career in music. If not then I’ll probably just be dead in a ditch somewhere with love letters and drugs all around me.
