Kenton Place Strikes With “Haley’s Comet”

It is always an experiment for a band as to how the members will come together to write songs. Much trial and error are often made to discover what works best. Other times, a piece just seems to come together on its own and hits all the right spots after a band plays it through once. We hear that in “Haley’s Comet,” by the alternative rock band Kenton Place.

Kenton Place is based in Houston, Texas, comprised of vocalist/guitarist Logan Smalley (Smalls), drummer Noe Hernandez (Fez), lead guitarist Roque Techera (Rock, the hero), and bass guitarist Curtis Bird (Mr. Bird). Together as Kenton Place, the childhood friends come together to produce a strong alt-rock sound that hits hard. That name is to pay tribute to the place that provided them with many childhood memories and honor their roots.

Their self-stated most important track “Haley’s Comet” ties all the best pieces of alternative rock into a tight little package. It is one of the first songs that Kenton Place ever wrote and recorded together. AS soon as they played it through, they knew that they were on to something special.

A mellow distorted guitar opens the sound while emotion-dripped lyrics draw the listener in close. The steady rhythm section keeps the flow going with style. A top-level guitar solo is thrown in to really grab the listener’s attention to the talent of the band. As the group chorus comes in we can really feel what the band is all about.
