Indie Band Guru Recommends – 2018 Vans Warped Tour

The final Vans Warped Tour is upon us and honestly, the line-up is pretty stacked no matter who you’re a fan of. From pop-punk to mid-2000s emo, to hardcore and pretty much everything in between, there’s enough diversity musically to keep this final line up interesting and fresh while giving the Warped classic sound alive.

Whether it’s your first or last Warped Tour, there’s a band that you know and a band that you’re going to fall in love with.

If you missed the 2008 hype that 30H!3 brought to middle and high schools across the country, you missed out on some iconic lyrics. With songs like “Don’t Trust Me” that will have hundreds of people around you yelling out “tell your boyfriend, if he says he’s got beef, that I’m a vegetarian and I ain’t f***ing scared of him.” Their mix of electronic loops, voice effects, and high energy will be on the tour all summer long on the Journeys Left Foot stage.

With the recent release of their album Living ProofState Champs have been a band to watch at this year’s Warped Tour. Drawing energetic crowds with their killer pop-punk sound, State Champs are a band that has thrived in the summer heat. Living Proof follows up their amazing Around The World And Back providing the band ample opportunity to switch up their setlist in each city, providing a personalized, fresh feel every single day.

Waterparks are a band that I have not stopped talking about since their release of Cluster EP in 2015. This band has blown up out of Huston, TX and made their way into hears on the Made In America tour prior to the release of the sophomore album Entertainment. The boys of Waterparks know how to translate their on-stage energy into their fans both old and new. If you miss their set, you’re going to miss a huge talking point with your Warped friends.

If you don’t check out The Maine‘s set, you’re going to miss out on one of the most positive and inspiring sets of the day. The band is getting ready to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their debut album Can’t Stop Won’t Stop, making them the perfect addition to the final Warped line-up. Their positive performances were seen from sold-out crowds across the country last spring on their Fry Your Brain With The Maine tour and to massive crowds this Warped Tour. Missing The Maine’s incredible energy would be nothing short of a mistake.

If you don’t know all the words to “Check Yes Juliet” then where have you been. We The Kings are notable Vans Warped Tour alumni who have played the tour a handful of times and are a perfect choice to round out the last summer of Warped. Their album Six dropped in early July and is the perfect evolution from their past and shows their mid-2000s roots and shows their progression from angsty-twenty-somethings to adults, much like the coming of age of Warped Tour fans.

All female rockers Doll Skin have been stirring up quite a ruckus with their brightly colored hair and hard-hitting mix of rock, punk, and pop. The group has become quite the talk on social media as a need-to-see-band on the tour, meaning if you miss out you’re going to regret it.

Don Broco‘s live performances are nothing short of mind-blowing as seen on tour opening for Our Last Night. They perfectly melt hardcore into an easily digestible soundtrack that’ll have you talking about their stage presence as soon as their set ends. They’ve had the crowd yelling out “eight days a week sucker” all summer long and the summer heat isn’t stopping them from going as hard as possible every day.
