Seldom – New Alternative Rock At Its Finest

There are constantly new genres and sub-styles popping up in the rock vein.  Some open up new worlds and some just fall flat.  It is refreshing sometimes to get a submission that stays true to the alternative rock style that has been a mainstay for years.  Our new discovery Seldom hits the nail on the head while adding their own original touch.

Hailing from the heart of Houston, Texas the band aims to excite and entertain their fans with each song and performance.  Right from the beginnings of Seldom in 2013 the music just flowed and poured with emotion and raw power.  The band began with Mitch, Matt, Carlos, and Bryan but added James recently as a 2nd guitarist to fill out their sound even more.  Together their hard work has paid off with a legion of fans and the opportunity to open for some of the biggest names of the genre such as P.O.D., Flyleaf, Lacuna Coil, Drowning Pool,  Powerman 5000, and Puddle of Mudd.

The last full length album from Seldom is the impressive Damaged.  The 9 track record takes the best parts of alternative hard rock from the last decade and puts it all together for a complete listen.  The opener “Legacy” with its slow built and aggressive attack wakes you up immediately for what you are about to experience.  The vocals come out in a laid back style but are really just giving you a second to breath.  There is a heavy pop-punk feel to “Plastic Idols” with its hard hitting drums, grinding guitar and in your face vocals.  Enjoy the music video here:

Seldom also shows off their softer side on “Over & Over” with emotional ballad style vocals paired with epic atmospheric instruments that add another level to the track.  The power of “Ozymandias” grabbed me right away with a slightly progressive vibe with different sounds filling the sonic space between energetic verses.  The record closes with the title track “Damaged” which seems to pull it all together for a sendoff that will leave you remembering the name Seldom.  Word is that they are putting the finishing touches on a follow up EP entitled Black Mirror.  Keep up with these rising stars at: http://www.seldomband.com
