(WASHINGTON DC) While many feel the music industry is in disarray right now it’s always a breath of fresh air to hear a new and exciting band that’s not afraid to take chances with their music. Enter 3 member sonic-rock band SIRENS with their latest vocal musings entitled “I Believe.” After a chance meeting at a ZUBA Festival SIRENS was born consisting of Stevie Lee Kinzer, and brothers Josh and Jacob Barnhart.
It’s clear to me they have surpassed what many consider the a-typical sonic-rock release in 2018. From the beginning to the melodic 3 part harmony ending, SIRENS deliver on all fronts and quite frankly BLEW ME AWAY. “I Believe” is in itself a positive pop anthem that will keep you mesmerized and somewhat inspired.
There’s also quirkiness that is slightly adrenalized, and a vibe that is unmistakably SIRENS.
These 3 combine many impressive musical styles like vintage funky-pop, retro rock, and even electronic pop to traditional sonic-rock. Now that’s a pretty whacked out list. The production value (Recording, Mixing, Mastering) pulls out all the stops. The music of Sirens will also remind you Grizzly Bear, Philip Selway, Beck and The Strokes.
Focusing on Barnhart vocally he really gets his point across and goes beyond traditional pigeonholing by music critics like myself. Up front, Jake Barnhart delivers a gifted vocal ability as he glides with precision through the piece. One of the things I really like about “I Believe” is the strategic vocal layering and tasty harmonies, especially at the end. Steve Kinzer holds his own on Keys/Synth-Bass and Josh Barnhart on drums pounds out a steady beat.
In closing, much of SIRENS goes beyond just good playing and world class songwriting. Lyrics and making a positive impression are also important factors for me when listening to a band or artist. In this aspect, I found SIRENS hit it out of the park as they paint you an impressive visual between the spoken word and messages of hope, love and the love of life itself.
