Underdog – Hard Work Pays Off Creating An Original Sound

There is no easy way into the music business.  It takes hard work and practice to reach the goals that any musician has.  The drive and personal strength to put in this hard work is what separates the success stories from the artists that fall by the wayside.  Our recent discovery Underdog seems to be on his way to success.

Underdog

Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada the artist also known as Jason Blackwood is one of the hardest workers in the game.  Underdog has over 350 shows under his belt and is active on the streets creating a positive reputation.  Much of what he has learned can be attributed to his roots.  Jason is son to multi-award winning Roots Reggae artist Errol Blackwood.  Seeing his father build a legacy has inspired Underdog to dive in to the hip hop genre to create his own story.  The inspiration for his sound has been attributed to a wide variety of artists such as Bob Marley, 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, Nirvana, and Rage Against The Machine.  The result is a sound that is all Underdog.

We had a chance to hear some of Underdog’s recent tracks and can see the the upward trend.  The hard hitting single “Foundation” shows off the impressive lyrical flow over a driving beat that will have your head bopping.  There is a mellow piano open to “Every Dog Has His Day” setting up a nice melody while Underdog tells his story of shooting for success.  His lyrics aim for real life and not the standard hip hop fare of money and bitches.  On “Trash Talk” the vocals take the lead again as the focus.  These songs will take a few listens to take it all in but it is worth hitting repeat.  Enter Underdog’s world at:
