Chill, laid-back, and breezy are all words that can be used to describe singer-songwriter Alex Julia and her latest single “Like The Sun.”
Alex Julia is a singer-songwriter, content creator, foodie, and adventure seeker from New Jersey. She has a very unique style to her music, drawing from influences of pop, rock, and indie genres. Alex released her debut EP titled Better Part Of Me on September 19, 2020.
Better Part Of Me picked up steam on college radio stations across the country such as KXLU and WMCX. The EP even caught the interest of The Bay Area Reporter.
LHYME shared a recipe on Pinterest for Hawaiian pizza that they paired with Alex’s music. This inspired Alex to launch her blog “Julia’s Live Music Pizza.” The blog helps spread the word on independent artists.
Her newest single “Like The Sun” really showcases her unique style of music. You can really pick up on the different genres that she drew inspiration from.
“Like The Sun” is a love song about a special someone being a positive energy source and being “perfect like the sun.” After listening to the song a couple of times, it just keeps getting better.

The blend of instrumentation and her soft, dreamy vocals are to thank for the chill, laid-back, and breezy vibe that I mentioned above.

Looking for a heartache-in-your-feels song with a great Americana sound? Look no further than Matthew Austin Hunt’s newest single “Free.”
Matthew Austin Hunt has always had a love for music. Hunt’s grandfather (a 1940s recording artist) introduced him to music by giving him a guitar at the age of 7. Hunt went on to play in the Fighting Texas Aggie Band at Texas A&M. He is currently a singer-songwriter and Americana artist based in Texas.
Growing up surrounded by music, Hunt has acquired many musical influences from both his father and grandfather. His father introduced him to records from artists such as Jerry Jeff, Willie, and Merle, CCR, Bill Withers, and Stevie Wonder. His grandfather introduced him to artists such as Perry Como, Bing Crosby, and Johnny Mathis
Hunt’s own musical influences come from the likes of Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, and The Turnpike Troubadours.
“Free” is about wishing to be free from the heartache feelings and wound-causing memories that come with breaking up. Heartache is a popular theme in music and is a relatable life experience for many.

I enjoy the lyricism and Americana instrumentation of Matthew Austin Hunt’s music. From “Bye London Bye” and “American Made” to his newest single “Free”, I am looking forward to hearing more from Hunt.

David and Stephen Dewaele of Soulwax have teamed up with Chet Faker to release “Whatever Tomorrow (Soulwax Remix).” The newest single is off of Chet Faker’s upcoming album Hotel Surrender, which is set to release on July 16, 2021.
Nick Murphy is an award winning singer-songwriter and producer from Melbourne, Australia. He started creating music under the name Chet Faker from 2011 to 2016. In that time he released a number of EPs, gained billions of global streams, and became an award winning and chart topping artist. He won five ARIAs for his 2014 album Built on Glass, and earned the #1 spot on triple j’s 2014 Hottest 100.
In 2017, he decided to drop the Chet Faker name and start releasing music under his real name. He released music under the Nick Murphy name from 2017-2020. 2020 saw the revival of Chet Faker after six years. The upcoming 10 track album Hotel Surrender will be the first album released since the revival. It will “embrace joy and simultaneously confront the perils of our modern age head on.”
Check out the visualizer for “Whatever Tomorrow (Soulwax Remix):
I really enjoyed the instrumentation of “Whatever Tomorrow (Soulwax Remix).” The Dewaele brothers have been making music together as Soulwax since 2005. Soulwax took Chet Faker (Nick Murphy)’s vocals and created a perfect blend using a high-energy dance/electronic sound. The remix is a perfect chill vibes experience.
Chet Faker (Nick Murphy) on “Whatever Tomorrow (Soulwax Remix):
“I think I like it better than mine”
Soulwax (David and Stephen Dewaele) on “Whatever Tomorrow (Soulwax Remix):
“We agree, we think our version is better ;).”
Paste Magazine said that “Chet Faker’s approach is different, focusing more on atmosphere compared to his work as Nick Murphy that blends live instrumentation and darker, more experimental themes. Together, the two sides show Murphy’s versatility as an artist that expands with each endeavor.” I definitely agree with them and I am excited to hear this song and many others on Hotel Surrender when it comes out on July 16.
Have you ever struggled to find the perfect Mother’s Day gift for that special mother figure in your life? Well Tarah from the band Tarah Who? decided to take her and her mother’s shared love for music, and turn it into the most supreme of presents; a song called “La Petite Boche: Un Amour De Guerre.”
Tarah Who? Is a grunge-punk female duo band consisting of frontwoman Tarah Carpenter and drummer/ backing vocalist Coralie Hervé. Tarah started out Tarah Who? as a solo act in Los Angeles, California. She was born in France and has been a musician since she was 14. Tarah’s music talents include drums, bass, guitar, singing, songwriting, and producing the music for Tarah Who?
Coralie Hervé on her connection with Tarah Carpenter:
“When I first met Tarah, it floored me how bold she is; I felt this exuberance and fire from her. It reminded me of why I play music in the first place.”
The duo have released a number of EPs and singles together since 2014, that have acted as a time machine back to the 90’s alt-rock/grunge era. Every song is a high-energy song that is perfect for fans of Alanis Morissette, Foo Fighters, The Distillers, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Spinerette.
Listen to “La Petite Boche: Un Amour De Guerre” here:
Their most recent release “La Petite Boche: Un Amour De Guerre ” adds to the high-energy discography andand was released just in time for French Mother’s Day.
Mother’s Day (la fête des mères) in France typically falls on the last Sunday of May or the first Sunday in June. This year it falls on Sunday May 30, 2021. The song is a perfect gift for Tarah’s mother who shares a love for music with her.
Tarah Carpenter on her and her mother’s love of music:
“listening to music was one of our things. My mom shared with me the bands she used to go see live and I would share with her the bands I discovered. You never know as a kid what is going to be special. But looking back, that is one of the moments that sticks out as influential.”
The name of the song loosely translates to “the little German: A Love Of War.” The phrase “La Petite Boche” (the little german), was initially an insult from her mom’s French classmates. She decided to take back the insult and turn it into love and appreciation.
What I really love about “La Petite Boche: Un Amour De Guerre” is the sentimental message behind the song. It is one large thank you to her mother for everything she has done and for all the love and care she has given. I think it was a great idea to create this high-energy song as a gift for Mother’s Day as I’m sure there are many mothers out there who would be honored to have a song written about them.

He has his own band called Collective Unconscious that plays both original and cover music including the entirety of well-known albums such as The Beatles’ Abbey Road, the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, and more. He is currently working with/for 60’s pop sensation Bobby Vee and his family at RockHouse Studios in St. Joseph, Minnesota.
His newest album Little Big Things is set to release on June 18, 2021. The 12 track album is dedicated to the loving memory of Jeff Engholm’s mother Kathy.
After listening to this album from front to back, I have to say that I really enjoyed it. The instrumentation and vocals of each song are very strong, as well as the lyricism and theming. You can really hear and feel the emotion and theme that is behind each song.
My interpretation of the meaning behind the songs on Little Big Things:
“I Can’t Look At You” is a heartbreak song about not being able to look at someone you loved the same anymore.
Check Out The Music Video For “I Can’t Look At You”:
“Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind” is about always being there for the ones that need you most and not letting them go unnoticed.
“Someday Soon” is about promises that he hopes will someday soon be made.
“Believe in Yourself” is an upbeat song about having a positive outlook on life and believing in yourself so that others will do the same.
“When It Began” is about remembering what it was like at the beginning before things changed.
“Bluefin Bay” is about the healing powers of peacefully sailing on Bluefin Bay.
“Feel The Sting” is about losing someone and having to get through the sting of getting over them.
“Flipped’ is about when everything you know gets turned upside down.
“Gathering For Winter” is a slow and calming song that is a welcoming to the winter solstice.
“Startup Man” was a little tricky for me to clearly interpret.
“Wake Up With You” is a love song about wanting to have a relationship with someone you care about.
“Little Big Things” is the title-song and is a goodbye song to Jeff’s mother Kathy. It’s about remembering the “little big things” that they had together.
The amount of involvement and passion that Jeff has in the music industry from his tribute bands to his original music is very impressive to see. He is just about a music wizard with his many skill sets. I’m looking forward to the release of this album.
“Come move with me, come dance with me. Before the summer leaves.” Those are the chorus lyrics to the newest song from DENM, “Califas” featuring Jared Watson of Dirty Heads.
Southern California singer/songwriter and producer DENM has been quickly rising to fame with his unique blend of alternative rock, reggae, and hip-hop. DENM has been featured on big-name playlists such as Spotify’s The New Alt, Apple Music’s New In Alt, and SiriusXM’s The Spectrum. His Spotify monthly followers has exceeded half a million, which is very impressive.
DENM’s highly anticipated album Slum Beach Denny released on May 14th and features 16 songs including singles “Fallin”, “My Wave”, “Blow Up”, and “Califas”.
Check Out “Califas” Below:
DENM About Shooting “Califas” Video:
“We shot the video in two days all over SoCal. Jared Watson is just a legend for being down to go on 6-hour road trips just to get the shot. We got to make some art that we love.”
Jared Watson of Dirty Heads About “Califas”:
“DENM reached out to me and I liked what I heard. But it wasn’t until I got in the studio with him that I was really blown away. He has that effortless talent. Not only with his voice but his vision and production. On a musical level, on a personal level, and on a creative level, the connection was there instantly. And you can hear that in the originality of ‘Califas.’ We chatted for a bit, bounced ideas around and then like that, we banged that song out in one session. It was done in hours, that’s how you know you have something special.”
What I like about the “Califas” music video is that DENM and Jared Watson shot it on a series of road trips. It adds to the So Cal summer vibe that can be heard throughout the song and seen in the video. With the unique mixture of genres that make up DENM’s sound, I’m excited to see what else he brings to the table!
Have you ever had that one person come into your life and turn it upside down to the point where you can’t get them off your mind and can’t get enough of them? Well that is the theme of the new single and music video from Kelli Faith, “Can’t Get Enough.”
Kelli Faith is a country-pop singer/songwriter based in Brick, NJ. Before becoming a solo artist Kelli was part of a pop-punk band called Before It’s Too Late. The band had a successful career opening up for bands such as Hinder and Nonpoint. Before It’s Too Late played their final show on September 1, 2017 before disbanding.
Kelli took some time off to focus on herself, and ended up deciding to kickstart her own solo career. Her debut single of her newfound solo career titled “Him” was released on December 21, 2018. Since then she has released a single titled “More”, and her debut album titled 21 which was released on September 20, 2019. “Can’t Get Enough” is her first release in almost 2 years.
It’s always exciting to witness musicians experimenting with new sounds. Going from the pop-punk scene of NJ to the country scene of NJ, is a whole new playground. Music is all about the journey of finding and perfecting your sound, and I think that Kelli has found hers.

Kelli About “Can’t Get Enough”:
“I feel like, “Can’t Get Enough,” is a song that is on a whole new level for me. Not only did I share more of my personality in this song than ever before, but also it sounds completely different from anything off my debut album, 21. When I say different, I mean… It’s sexy, it’s fun. The music video is a great example of that. I feel confident that I have finally found MY sound, a sound that I’m proud of and “Can’t Get Enough” is just the beginning.”
When first listening to “Can’t Get Enough” and watching the music video, I right away got an old school vibe that definitely reminded me of artists like Taylor Swift, Sheryl Crow, Colbie Caillat, and Michelle Branch. I really enjoyed this single and I think that Kelli has got a lot of potential in the country-pop music scene.
A very relatable feeling during this ongoing pandemic is loneliness. With social lives being forced to be put on a hold, many have been left alone within the four walls of their rooms. Teenage bedroom pop star AVIV took her isolation and her Les Paul, and tapped into this lonely feeling to create her newest single “Lonely B*tch.”
At just 14 years old and full of dreamy talent, she has caught the eye of many labels, and is one of the hottest new artists to emerge from the Toronto music scene. If you’re a tv or movie fan you may recognize her from her roles in American Gothic, Milk Kids, L.M, Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables.
While she has taken inspiration from many genres and musical influences, two big influences to mention are rock band Nirvana and indie/alt artist Clairo. In “Lonely B*tch” you can really hear the influence from Clairo.
Her newest single “Lonely B*tch” is about her inner battle with the restlessness and loneliness that she was feeling in the beginning of the pandemic, and wanting for her emotions to go back to the way they were. This is something that I’m sure many of us can relate to. It’s been hard to put our social lives on hold during this difficult time, and it has definitely caused many feelings. The lyrics in this song are almost like a look into AVIV’s personal diary.
Check Out “Lonely B*tch” Video Below:
AVIV About “Lonely B*tch” :
“Being home, alone, I developed this sense of anger and blame which resulted in endless nights crying in my room. The song Lonely Bitch was inspired by a toxic relationship I developed with myself, at the height of the pandemic. This energy began to consume me and showed me I did not want to stay in these ways. “Lonely Bitch” is a term which represents the girl I was in those times.”
What I really love about this music video are the visuals. It is like stepping into a time machine and ending up back in the 90s. The vintage camera quality, popular 90’s graphics, and a tea party for one are a perfect companion to the daydream bedroom pop sound of the song. After watching the video, I now want to go back to the 90s and eat cake alone at a tea party too!
With the talent that AVIV has and the amount of involvement she has in every aspect of her career from songwriting to playing the guitar to co-producing, she is definitely a rising artist to keep an eye on!
