Bring Yourself to Reality with the Sounds of ‘Orchard to Bartnick’ by Bogues

“Orchard to Bartnick” can be described very simply. Bogues makes it easy for me and leaves me with one word to say: “Wow”.

The specificity of indie, stripped

For Julien Baker fans, think of the first time you heard Turn Out the Lights. Recall those feelings. Wonder, emotion, shock, detailed nostalgia of something that broke your heart but its inexplicable as to what.

If you’re looking for a companion to that sound, “Orchard to Bartnick” is it. Seldom am I moved by music after listening to it once. It’s the depth and attention to detail that’s enrapturing. Bogues has a style of music that completely digs you into a colorful world of devotion and, ultimately, maturing.

Bogues impacts the genre with flowing intensity

Here’s where Bogues is different. Where composition of a similar single is usually melancholy, there’s a spark of brightness lingering atop this track. The song has a pulse, contributing to its build. The tenor in the Tennessee native’s voice is alluring as the harmonies impact and melt into one another. Stripped down indie is definitely becoming a norm in the scene, trailblazers transforming the notions into a complete original concept. A transition song to assist with the message of transition in growth, “Orchard to Bartnick” brings floods of mass uncertainty that rests in after a heavy life choice.

“The song is basically about noticing a change in your life well after it’s happened, and the doubt that comes with whether it was good or if you’ve done something wrong,” the singer-songwriter said.

Intense subject matter is no doubt impactful, and somewhat of a biographical stamp in growth for the musician. Bogues, comprised of AJ Gruenwald, has been filling music with such spirit since 2016 Debut Mulligan, an EP that carries the style of emotive expression through chilling instrumentals and vocals. Sophomore EP Life, Slowly, where you’ll find “Orchard to Bartnick,” came out on March 2.
