Creating new music by melding genres and sounds will always be a great way to make something fresh. Our recent discovery Merkekill Woodz does it in his own unique way with an attitude that will get him noticed. 

We had a chance to chat with the rising rock star and get a little deeper into where he is and where he is going. Enjoy the interview:

First off, how would you describe the Merkekill Woodz sound?

“I would describe my sound as Heavy Metal with hints of Hip Hop Lyrically Not too deep but cool enough to make you feel”

Which artists have had the biggest influence on you?

“I could name a lot of artists that have had a influence on me but to keep it simple Nirvana and Tupac definitely had the biggest influence you know”

How does a song come together for you? What is your songwriting process?

“I think hard about life.. I usually get ideas from things I think of during the night probably go in and record the next day sometimes I don’t like to hold to an idea for too long and sometime I creatively don’t have a choice it just happens”

Seattle has long been known as a hotbed of musical talent. How has the scene there helped shape your rising career?

“It was LA, Atlanta, Florida, New Orleans, New York, D.C & Chicago Artists that I was musically fluxed with musically since around 2008 friends from high school etc.”

We hear that you also have worked with some stars in the hip hop world. Tell us about that.

“Im 25 now I just really started singing and recording about 2023 but I’ve been involved socially and even artistically with artists like XXXtentacion, Dr Dre, Jay Z, Future, P Diddy, Drake And Kendrick Lamar from Co-Producing Hits and Working on Cover Arts for Modern Hip Hop Legends”

Your new album is making a statement. What is the story of the title XXONOXX?

“XXONOXX is an album I’m working on now. The album I just released has actually evolved into something called “Dear Whoever” the story behind the name is basically I thought it was a cool name but the XXONOXX album is still in development. Keep an eye out”

What do you hope listeners will take away from your music?

“I don’t really want them to take anything I want the music to take them. Wherever it needs to. Some people will get lost in it. Some will find themselves. Either way, it’s a journey. Not a message.”

Give us a glimpse into the future of Merkekill Woodz.

“Here’s a glimpse: imagine me still rocking out somewhere influencing the world. By the time the world realizes what I’ve done I hope to be the legend I always knew I would be.”
