Sharing her new single “Static” is pop singer/songwriter Gillian from Boston! This new single is going to be out on June 26th and is just one of many from her forthcoming EP ‘3 AM’ that she’s been working tirelessly on. “I actually wrote ‘Static’ minutes before leaving my house to go out with my friends… “Gillian says ‘I didn’t want to go, but I also didn’t want to miss out…” Her lyrics relate on a deeper level and about experiences that we as young female adults do. There’s this fear of missing out on things, or not wanting to inconvenience others by your lack of enthusiasm in a situation, and I think that she explores these different concepts so well.
Gillian uses her songwriting ability to explore “life’s ups and downs, ebbs and flows, and trials and tribulations with thoughtful clarity, poetic eloquence… Documenting the dissolution of a relationship, confronting the pains of addiction, or facing loneliness, she confidently conveys unbridled emotion with wisdom that belies her 16 years of age.”
“Static” is a: beautiful creation with its moving piano melody and modern wispy vocals. I think her choice of words are carefully thought out,and Gillian really gets into our heads, bringing to the surface these feelings of missing out, the anxiety that creeps up and makes life a million times harder, and does so effortlessly. Her lyrics are insanely relatable with a clear and concise story-line. There’s a strong sense of personality in her story, all while being brought to life through a beat that makes you want to dance!
“I strive for authenticity,” she explains. “Everything comes directly from me. My art is really who I am. Every word is true. You’re getting me through my writing. A lot of what I do is on the darker side and I’m thinking about specific instances. If I feel down about school or friends, I’ll take an emotion and directly channel it into a song. It’s all based on something that happened to me. I’ve always dealt with stress and emotional times through songwriting.”
Gillian also explains her true goal of songwriting is to connect with other people through her music, and sharing her truth while doing it. Be on the lookout for her full EP ‘3 AM’ for even more songs of her spilling her truth through music.
