There will always be a sense of freedom making music for yourself. Taking out the need to become a “star” allows you to experiment and just have fun. And shouldn’t that be what making music is all about? Our friends from Zanilonia are living this dream. New single “MacGuffins of the Mind” is their latest entry into a catalog of music for the sake of creating something unique and fun.
The career of David Zee has spanned decades now. From his on stage performances of the 70’s to his time focused on TV scores through the 80’s and 90’s to working on songwriting in the 2000’s, music was never not a major part of his life. With nothing left to prove David dove back into his own music with a virtual ensemble. With this latest creation not fitting into any “normal” category, Zanilonia was born to share this new sound with the people.

The latest single “MacGuffins Of The Mind” by Zanilonia is rooted in the TV themes of 50’s and 60’s television, in particular Alfred Hitchcock who coined the MacGuffin term for the prize that the heroes and villains are both chasing. The story was set in motion musically.
As the track opens, the classic chase scene melody and walking bassline paint the scene. Zanilonia uses the drop out of instruments to let the lyrics move the story forward. There always seems to be these switches in their music that keep the listener in tune and wondering where they will be taken next. Layers are added to fill out the full sonic spectrum giving us sounds to chase as well. There are interesting tones for everyone building up to an all-out chase scene that gets the heart pumping along with some instrumental flair.
Quite a fun little ride. We hope Zanilonia keeps it going with more classic yet innovative songs for us to enjoy. Keep up with the band HERE.
