The Complaints Escape Darkness with ‘Chasing Light’

The Complaints

There is nothing better than doing what you love for a living. Never mind being a world-traveling superstar, if you can play music and live a life you are happy with you are a full success. Our recent discovery The Complaints are one such success story. One of the most successful independent bands in the Northeast and still expanding.

The band got their start in Providence, Rhode Island and decided to put in the work to reach their goals. The Complaints are made up of guitarist/frontman Dean Petrella, bassist Chris Cruz, and drummer Anthony Marotti. Together they churn out a modern rock sound that hits on the classics while staying fresh. Influence can be heard from such bands as Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Radiohead, Coldplay and Matchbox Twenty.

Feel What The Complaints Have For You

This past summer The Complaints released their fifth full-length album Chasing Light. The 8-track record shows off their live energy with smooth production to sit aside any mainstream rock track on the radio. Opening up with title track “Chasing Light,” the relatable rock sound hits right away. There is a familiarity to their songs that makes you feel as if you heard it dozens of times on the first listen. A catchy chorus with solid vocals by Dean Petrella makes sure of that. A nice guitar solo reminds you that good rock is here to stay.

The Complaints show off some diversity with “That’s What You Get.” A soulful groove powers the song forward. Good luck not moving your body along to this groove. We all become part of the song as sounds creep deep into your soul with the emotion the band shares. Emotion gets to an even higher level on “Looking For Liars” with the vocals delivered with ballad-like intensity. “The Ocean” continues this with a true beauty. Feel the relaxing vibes wash over you.

The full live rock vibe returns on “Can’t Kill A Killer.” A creeping bassline combined with big guitars sets the backdrop as in your face lyrics jump out of the speakers. There is some darkness here that makes for a complete album. We get it all as we are Chasing Light.
