Chris Dave and The Drumhedz released their newest jazzy single “Dat Feelin'” featuring SiR. The funky tune has an irresistible grooviness to it, displaying Frank Ocean-esque vocals and one-of-a-kind drum beats. The song will be on the debut self-titled album, Chris Dave and The Drumhedz, set to release on January 26. The album will feature many more talented artists along the lines of SiR, such as Anderson .Paak, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Bilal, Elzhi, Anna Wise, and many more.
But Wait, There’s More Chris Dave and The Drumhedz
Prior to “Dat Feelin’,” Chris Dave and The Drumhedz released their first single, “Destiny N Stereo”, featuring Elzhi, Phonte Coleman, and Eric Roberson. The track gained lots of attention and was praised by NPR Music, The New York Times, Okayplayer, and Uproxx. It was deemed a “spaced-out track built on the backbone of Dave’s neck-cracking live drums” by Uproxx. All-in-all, both singles released thus far are held in high regards, which is only natural considering Chris Dave’s successful musical past.
From Church to Mint Condition
Chris Dave didn’t just learn to drum like that over night. His father and brother were both avid musicians, which is where he originally found his fascination for drums and jazz. Dave started out by playing in church, then made it through Houston’s prestigious High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and thus went on to study at Washington D.C.’s Howard University.
Dave’s professional career began soon thereafter when he started working with the ’90s R&B sensation Mint Condition. From there, he went on to work with Adele’s Grammy-winning album 21, as well as Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, D’Angelo, and more. Dave also played sessions with Lionel Richie, Mary J., and Kenny Garrett, all the while gaining more experience and improving his talent. He’s now earned a position in Rolling Stone‘s 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time.
Dave’s massive amount of connections from these sessions and album collaborations led to the founding of Drumhedz, which now has nearly 50 members. All of that has lead Dave here, to create the album he’s been building towards his entire life.
