“Say Hello” The Wounded Pop Single By Fly The Nest

Hailing from Dublin’s Ballinteer County, Fly The Nest is a solo project by lifelong musician Stephan Cooper which he started two years ago. His life’s journey and musical aspirations have taken Stephan across the pond to sunny California and beyond. Looking to build on a stellar 2021 with his breakout single “Old Street Lover,” Fly The Nest steps into the new year with “Say Hello,” his new pop drenched single built for the masses.

The new single is flawless from a writing standpoint. The organ with its subtle Leslie-like treatment kicks off the track, setting the mood with a maudlin tenor. The rest of the layers begin to come in ripples that turn into waves. Stephan’s vocal’s shine over the track as they should. His experience is evident in his vocal delivery, like a professional baseball pitcher that knows when to throw the right pitch. Just like the pitcher, Stephan feathers back and forth with his vocal delivery adding just the right amount of emotional gusto to each verse, and thus turning us into believers.

Listen to “Say Hello” below

If you’ve never experienced love sickness, “Say Hello” should be your introduction to this type of pain. Love is a universal language and the lyrics in the song are surely the same words spoken by anyone who’s ever had their heart broken. Words uttered with trembling lips glazed by a fusillade of salty falling tears while tearing up photographs in the corner of a dark room. “Say Hello” is the song those wounded by love should have on repeat. There’s something reminiscent about this song’s lyrics that reminds me of Taylor Swift. With lines like “It scares me to think that we weren’t meant to be” and “a scene from a Disney book I used to own” I can’t help but think of the pop goddess who’s built an empire on heartache.

Fly The Nest has the writing skills, voice and the experience to take it to the next level. Their song “Say Hello” is a step in the staircase to which they ascend to fulfilling their dreams. The band’s sound is 90’s glory with a modern twist. It’s a blend of When Will We Fall by Toad The Wet Sprocket, the album Definitely Maybe by Oasis, and of course the one and only, Taylor Swift. I’m a new fan, Fly The Nest is an amazing artist who lives to write music and the results speak for themselves
