IAMX Premiers ‘Stardust’ Video Featuring Kat Von D

IAMX

Artist, creative, and visual provocateur IMAX (aka Chris Corner) just debuted his dramatic video for “Stardust” featuring tattoo and makeup extraordinaire Kat Von D. Premiering the censored version on Alternative Press, an uncensored version debut via Playboy.

The track, much like IAMX’s entire album Alive In New Light, is filled with electronic experimentation mixed with punk energy and confessional lyrics. The video for “Stardust” personifies this energy in a larger than life cinematic feel. Filmed in a downtown Los Angeles industrial work loft, Corner spent an entire month working on different lighting experiments and techniques. Also directed by Corner, you can feel the creative energy that he puts into all his work, adding new layers to his art.

Never finding a true narrative in the video, it leaves it up to the viewer to interpret not only the visual elements but the music with it. Throughout the video, Kat Von D helps transform a member of IAMX’s band from aristocratic to anarchic. From shaving their hair to covering them in brown and red paint by the end, the entire transformation is sandwiched between clips of Croner’s unique look and provocative moves.

“I never really go in with a solid concept,” said Corner. “It’s more like piecing together a puzzle.”

The video for “Stardust” is only a preview of what IAMX has in store on his current tour. The videos fetishistic and expressionist styling, the visual style in the video is what inspired the look and lighting concepts for the live show.

The drive to create is something that both Corner and Kat Von D share. Corner comments about how she came and fit right in. “She knew what to do without me even starting to direct,” said Corner. “We both create, not because we want to, but because we HAVE to.”
