IBG Interview – 8 Questions With…. Suggestion

Suggestion

We come across some very interesting bands in our line of work. There are many missions out there in the music industry and artists are able to share their thoughts freely. This enables some great movements. Not many bands are as interesting or have as much to say as our recent find Suggestion.

Enjoy our interview with the progressive hard rock band here:

First off, tell us the meaning behind the name Suggestion?

There’s a section in the Bible that mentions that the devil can only suggest ideas, and not actually force anyone to do anything. We thought it was a fascinating view. Some of the worlds greatest and most terrible deeds have come about from a mere suggestion.

How would you describe the band’s sound?

Our sound comes from mixing different elements of the music that we’ve listened to for years. KB and I started playing music due to a common love for CKY and Foreign Objects. KB is a huge fan of metal and hip-hop, and Frank tends to lean more towards the prog metal side of things. Our bassist, Charles Bronson, loves Les Claypool and a lot of funky stuff.

Which bands have had the biggest influence on Suggestion?

Well, KB and I grew up listening to CKY, Metallica, Pantera, Exodus, and a lot of old school Tampa death metal, like Malevolent Creation and Death. Bronson listens to a lot of funky music, and he actually got us hooked on an old group called Boney M. Its some goofy shit, but its good.

How does a song come together for you guys? What is your songwriting process?

Every song is different. Some (like OME) started from a building of the main riff, but other songs like “Think About Sects” start as a phrase that we slowly build a song around. Our upcoming track, “SnakeBait” is another example of this.

Each song is unique and needs to be treated as such. None of us like or use a formula to come up with new material.

Your recent video for “One Man Enter (Two Men Leave)” is quite a show. Tell us about that one?

We make videos about the things we see. In this industry, there is no shortage of individuals trying to make a quick buck by enslaving your soul and owning all of an artist’s future work. The OME video was our portrayal of what happens to artists who get involved in this kind of heinous activity, and a testament to why we have decided to remain independent after all these years.

Can you tell us the origin story of the monsters?

Most of our public appearances have been met with hostility due to our appearance. Many claim that the members of Suggestion are monsters, yet that couldn’t be farther from the truth. We may look different than most, but that doesn’t mean were the monsters. The real monsters are the ones who pull all the strings, yet blend into the masses, and none of us know enough about them to give a definitive origin story.

What advice would you give to other rock bands driving in their own lane?

All I have to say to them is to watch the OME video carefully, and be wary when you’re going to sign a contract. You never know the true intention of those who want you to sign it. By the time you realize what’s going on, it’s usually too late.

Another piece of advice to bands driving in their own lane- stay the fuck out of ours.

What is next in the plans for Suggestion?

We plan on making more videos about the things we’ve seen in this industry. OME was just part one of a four-part series depicting the truths of this world that, for many, would rather be left unseen.

After the release of part four, we will be embarking on some shows across the east coast, focusing primarily in New York and Florida. Until then, keep your eyes peeled for our new videos and don’t forget to Think About Sects.

Keep up with the latest Suggestion happenings on their WEBSITE.
