For me there are not many things out there to cause an instant uptick in mood than some good funk music. The bass and overall vibe of musicians locking together to create a funk beat will always put a smile on my face (and sometimes get me dancing.) With this current cold snowy and depressing weather here in NYC, music fate stepped in to save me once again with “Point Of View” from The Heard Eye landing on my desk.
The collaborative and often remote project is the brainchild of trumpeter/vocalist/guitarist Paul Schneider and renowned drummer/producer Atma Anur. Now on different sides of the world, they reconnected and restarted their creativity online. Funk flowed and tracks started coming together. More recently bassist Greg Dunn, guitarist Nick Bunand, and keyboardist Justis Jones were added to the fray to continue the momentum with new single “Point Of You.”
The Heard Eye funnel a heady mix of funk-rock, subtle soul cues, and rhythmic bravado into a sound that feels both immediate and finely calibrated. This isn’t surface-level groove; there’s a heartbeat that feels alive and intentionally crafted.

Musically, the track sits comfortably in the sweet spot between vintage influences and modern indie production. The bass locks in with the drums to create an infectious pocket, while guitars and keys weave in and out with playful precision. It’s a vibe that calls for movement—not just nodding along, but an unselfconscious shuffle or sway. Despite its layered complexity, nothing feels overcrowded; each instrument has its room to breathe, which is something many indie-funk hybrids aspire to but few actually achieve.
Lyrically and tonally, “Point of You” doesn’t lean on gimmick or affectation. The Heard Eye seem to understand that a good groove is only as strong as the emotional intent behind it, and while the song might underplay its narrative thrust in favor of sonic momentum, it does so with a confidence that feels earned. The vocals are front-and-center with some not so subtle meaning yet never dominating the texture. It’s a part of a mix that is as collaborative as the band’s approach suggests.
The accompanying music video extends this sonic philosophy into a visual space. Cool animation plays along with the sounds as the lyrics roll across the screen letting the listener catch every word without having to guess.
For listeners who appreciate a blend of funk’s warm pulse with rock’s forward motion and indie’s curiosity, this is a slice of music that rewards not just repeated spins, but a little physical engagement too. “Point of You” is a confident, groove-rich single that showcases The Heard Eye’s ensemble strengths by making you think both sonically and visually.
