A shape-shifting Los Angeles-based duo who infuse their breezy, west coast electro-pop with elements of hip-hop, indie rock, and psych-pop, Coast Modern is the brainchild of Seattle native Luke Atlas and L.A.-based Coleman Trapp. The two met as struggling songwriters in Southern California; after taking time to write for themselves as opposed to tastemakers, they came together to form the band that is easily on its way to the top.
Back in 2015, Coast Modern was navigating the path through chillwave-infused-reggae with the release of their first single, “Hollow Life.” Two years later, “Pockets Full of No” is proof that they’ve got the navigation down and are beginning to master it.
Coast Modern Will Get You Grooving with “Pockets Full of No”
With relaxed vocals, cool beats, and a general dismissal of the ‘luxe life, “Pockets Full of No” will become a popular hit that dominates any party’s stereo this summer. The duo described it as “a song about having fun with no money. When you got pockets full of no, you can still have a life full of yes.” Everything about the song, from the lyrics to the guitar licks, backs up their claim.
If you’re part of the crowd following Trapp’s suggestions – “we can get high, we can get low” – then this song will become your anthem every night. “We don’t need a lot, no we don’t,” they croon. “We got what we got: pockets full of no!” You can almost hear the lazy smirk at the end of the sentence, and you can’t help but smile.
The track is the musical interpretation of the phrase “money can’t buy happiness:” even with just a quarter left, it’s possible to have the time of your life with the right people.
