Artists leaving California and New York for Nashville Tennessee is a thing. I know a few who left California and made a name for themselves in Nashville. Originally from New York, David Vogel also made the move down south. Speaking of moves, he’s made a few. Appearing on The Voice, a recently signed a pub/ production deal, amassing streams are notable moves indeed. His new single ‘Maybe You’re The Reason‘ is more than buzz worthy.
Out of the gate we get the talons of the track. That guitar line is infectious and thoughtfully sprinkled at key points. As the track builds, the songwriting shines. Case is point are the verses. Instead of a straight-line approach, the verses feature a soft detailed touch. A kind of finesse one would expect from a stay at a Relais & Chateaux property. Another sensational moment can be found in the pre-chorus. The way those two notes swing at the end of the vocal line is sheer gold. Makes me feel like I caught a wave on my boogie board, accelerating over whitewater.
Vocally speaking, his performance is flawless. When the track contracts and expands, he follows suit. He showcases his range and does so in an unobtrusive manner. By letting the track lead, both the music and his vocals reap the benefits. An A++ performance.
My only complaint is in the bridge. I realize I sound like a spoiled brat who is upset they got a BMW and not a Mercedes. I was really hoping for a blast into outer space moment. Where we double down and push through the atmosphere. Instead, the track went with an acoustic touch. I understand the decision. Their choice does give the reload some added oomph.
David Vogel is in complete control of his music. The music speaks for itself. ‘Maybe You’re The Reason’ is pop glory. Everything about this single is made for radio and mass consumption. If this single isn’t the one that makes David a household name. Then it will be remembered as a step in the ladder that did.
Keep up with and follow David Vogel!!!
