The belief that musicians become overnight successes is just false. The non rock stars can believe whatever they want but true artists understand. Years of hard work, patience and determination often go unseen by the general public. Our recent find Alive Alone has been making music together for a decade now.
All that work is now looking pay off with their debut album Good Grief scheduled for release in October. From the first mixes of the single “Joyfall” that I have heard, big things will be coming for the alt-rockers.
We had a chance to chat with the band about how they got to this point and what is coming next. Enjoy the interview here:
First off, where did the name Alive Alone come from?
Our bass player Dre suggested the name in the early stages of the band and it just stuck ever since.
How would you describe the band’s sound?
It started off very emo/post hardcore but we took liberty to just write whatever we want. Some of it is abrasive and heavy and some of it is pop rock.
Which bands have been most influential to Alive Alone?
My Chemical Romance is a big one for all of us. Besides that I would say Weezer, STRFKR, the first Escape The Fate album, and a bunch of early 2000s bands.
After 10 years together what was the catalyst to finally start preparing a full album for release?
I think after 10 years of playing and touring together, we were ready for something bigger. 10 years is a long time to release your first album, but we’ve matured a lot as a band and individually as musicians, it just felt like the right time.
What can you tell us about the new album Good Grief?
Our new single “Joyfall” will be out this month. The second single has a collaboration that I think is going to surprise a lot of people. I know bands are always excited about releasing new music, but these really are our best songs.
How did the album come together? Tell us about the recording process.
We worked on the demos for a while, once we started jamming them, ideas were pouring out and we ended up writing a few more songs in our rehearsal space. This was the first time that we didn’t record ourselves, we went to Gravity Studios and recorded with Doug McBride. The album is currently being mixed by Joe Reinhart.
What is next on the horizon for Alive Alone?
We have a tour in the works for this winter. We’re going to parts of the country that we haven’t been to in a long time, so we’re excited for that. Besides that, we’re going to ride to wave of whatever opportunities come with releasing this album. We’d love to support other artists as opening acts on their shows or tours.
