I had the pleasure of reviewing a previous single by Zanilonia. That single was zany. When I got the opportunity to review another Zanilonia track, I thought I knew what was coming. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Their new single, “The Door Never Opened Before” is completely different. Everything about it is different. Kudos to Zanilonia for the range. “The Door Never Opened Before” showcases mass appeal with a retro 60’s quality. Let’s talk about it.
The progression of the song is spot on. First the keys, then synths as a repeating open guitar chord rings out. When the drums arrive, the momentum takes over. This single songwriting style is traditional. Zanilonia adds some flair via their synths. The bridge at the 2:09 minute mark reinvigorates the track. This is no ordinary bridge, it’s the London Bridge of music bridges. The details in the insert are a work of art. Not only am I ready for the second pass, but I also brought friends.
Now let’s discuss what’s truly special about this single. That my friends are the vocal melodies. Zanilonia sets things up by singing with a simple cadence. Then picks it up. Every bar is fresh and changing. The velvety sweet female vocal harmonies are frosting that glues this chocolate cake together. When the duo lock-on in the choruses, it’s simply spectacular. He sings his heart. We feel the emotion and thus hang onto every word. I gave him kudos for the range he covers with his two last singles. They hit one out of the park here.
Keep up with and follow Zanilonia!!!
