THE INTERNET Keep it Smooth and Funky with ‘Roll (Burbank Funk)’

THE INTERNET

THE INTERNET released “Roll (Burbank Funk)” and the title is perfectly suiting.

The band consists of Syd, Matt Martians, Steve Lacy, and Christopher Smith. Their 2015 Album, Ego Death, was Grammy-nominated and consisted of smooth and funky singles, similar to “Roll (Burbank Funk).”

THE INTERNET Smoothly Deliver the Funk

The song can be described as a “funkified space jam.” The song features Syd and Steve Lacy dueting with smooth and soulful vocals. The flowy and bouncy chorus gives Lacy’s voice a bit of the limelight, making his cool and relaxed voice the focal point. Syd chimes in perfectly with higher melodies, making it more of a sweet and smooth sound.

In Ego Death, Syd’s vocals were much more prominent. However, she takes a bit of the back seat in this track. Her voice remains velvety and complimentary, but Lacy’s voice takes control.

‘Roll (Burbank Funk)’ Gets You Moving

Although the song is smooth and relaxing, there’s still a bit of bounce to it. The chorus is funky, just like the title suggest, and cheerful.

The programmed beats add a bit of a groovy sound. The tune gives you a bit of that roller disco sound. The whole song is cool and extremely relaxed, while also making you want to get up and jam out.

The groovy song is danceable and incorporates a tranquil melody beautifully. Overall, it’s a pleasant-sounding song and mixes in parliament style funk with some soulful vibes.

A Funky Video is Added to the Mix

The band released a music video for their single. The video emphasizes the psychedelic vibes by using colorful, trippy visuals. It’s the classic ’70s sound and look.

The video also has a subtle surprise at the end. It’s a full on groovy dance party and Tyler, the Creator, Dev Hynes, and Mac DeMarco make a quick appearance within the psychedelic visuals.
