KO Brings The “House Party”

R&B doesn’t have to be particularly fanciful to sound epic and majestic, and if you’re not quite sure about this fact, you need to hear a new single/video combo from rising R&B star KO this February titled “House Party.” “House Party” leaves the conventional fireworks out of the mix entirely just to spotlight some of the lustiest attributes its singer brings to the table with him as both a vocalist and a master arranger, and whether you’re a hardcore fan of the genre or not, this is a kind of R&B just about any melody-lover will be able to appreciate.

KO doesn’t just illustrate an over-the-top party in the video for this single through the same old-same old we’ve seen in other videos of a similar titling, but instead brings us into his household to experience what feels like an intimate evening meant to be shared with those most special to us. There’s a retro romantic element to be appreciated in both the visual setup as well as the music that’s guiding its narrative along in all the right directions here, and it’s never being stated through the use of fluffy props ala wasted money and pointless intoxication.

The lead vocal in this mix shares the same level with the instrumental hook in the background, but there’s no denying that KO is the more powerful of the two entities competing for our affection. He doesn’t have a problem facing down a really big beat, or an even bigger harmony, because he wants us to know how organic a talent he has both in this instance and without the assistance of studio elements he would be without in concert. I’m excited to see his stage presence for myself, but I feel like I’m getting a good idea of what it consists of in this release.

If this is on par with what I should be expecting to hear from KO in his next single or full-length album, he’s going to have a rough time keeping his name out of the mainstream press as his music gains more and more momentum among R&B aficionados of all ages. He brings it hot n’ heavy in this single and its endearing music video, all without having to dig into the predictable well that a lot of players resort to for one reason or another. KO has the right path in front of him, and the charm he has in “House Party” comes in second to none right now.
