There are few things better than being part of a scene. Feeling the shared passion and energy of a group of people that all respect each other over a shared love of music is empowering. This has been the starting point of many great bands. We recently discovered Sonic Scene Kids who are the latest epitome of that.
Officially forming in 2023 in the Halton region of Southern Ontario, Canada, The band is the result of artists in the same scene circles for years finally coming together to create their mark. After toiling away individually for over 15 years in the small bars of Toronto and Hamilton, Kyle (guitar and vocals), Peter (guitar and vocals), Austin (drums) and Chris (bass and vocals) have come together as Sonic Scene Kids.
Their sound stems from the Streetsville music scene in Mississauga, Ontario of the early 2000’s. Well known bands such as Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, Illscarlett came from that scene. The Sonic Scene Kids sound is a fresh mix of this, touching on influences like indie, experimental, punk, emo, and even some metal.
The new album You Are Not Alone from Sonic Scene Kids is 13 tracks that bring back the best part of the early 2000’s Toronto scene. The record opens with the power of “Astro do-si-do” and it’s all out energy. Pounding drums, swirling guitars, and in your face vocals set the tone immediately. There is no let up in the followup “They’re Trying To Kill Me.” Impressive guitars put a speed to the track that will keep the blood pumping.
Try To Escape With Sonic Scene Kids
The build up and attack of “Comatose” takes us back to the energy of being in a small room with a band just pouring their heart out from the stage. The lyrics are real and unafraid to share what’s going on inside. “Echoes” continues this with an even more punk rock attitude and emotion as well.
Sonic Scene Kids take us deeper into their world on “Spiders.” A slowed down melody lets more of a story be told with feelings and all. There is a seriousness here that demands that the listener pay attention. Their sound continues to show off multiple influences on the stormy “Dark Daze,” the progressive punk of “Don’t Look Now,” and the acoustic punk of “Heaven”
