Instrumentally, there’s not a lot of conceptualism to the new single and music video from Goodfella Uno, “Peace.” Just in studying the basic foundations of the track, it’s pretty clear that this is a rapper who doesn’t have time for the same cheesy props that a lot of his peers spend many an hour cultivating and putting to work in the studio. The vocal is the stunner, the tone-setter, and the flash to be enjoyed in “Peace,” and Goodfella Uno isn’t about to front with a lot of fanciful fireworks around the hook. He’s to the point here, and it’s quite the refreshing attitude indeed.
There is an ominousness to the beat in this track that almost feels like quicksand, pulling us deeper and deeper into the rhythm, and the next thing we know we’re in way over our heads. The immersive quality of the master mix compensates for the black and white instrumentation marvelously, and the general scheme helps us to appreciate how much charm Goodfella Uno has as both a vocalist and a lyricist. His poetic depth is something to be applauded in “Peace,” and we wouldn’t have known this with a virtuosic melody ahead of him.

The optimism in my man’s voice is something that grabbed my ear right from the jump in this single, and the contrast of this vocal delivery with the aforementioned darkness of the beat really made the narrative in the lyrics so much more tangible for me. The accessibility of this song isn’t being defined by the hook, but by the way it’s being fashioned together almost exclusively by the half-sung rapping Goodfella Uno is putting up at the microphone. You can’t deny his organic ability in this performance, and it’s something I would like to hear more of a lot sooner than later.
If the music video for “Peace” is a proper representation of the personality and creative wit that Goodfella Uno is bringing with him to the game, the elevation of his profile within the industry is inevitable. There’s an acerbic quality to his execution that I wish I could hear a little more of in the American underground today, and at the very least I think it’s going to be enough to bring some mainstream attention to Goodfella Uno’s work this year. “Peace” is a nice introduction, and a song I can certainly see myself revisiting as a fan later in 2022.
