As human beings, we all make mistakes that can hurt ourselves or others. However, in modern society, making a mistake is like a death sentence. People hate each other for things they’ve done and things they can’t control, until there is no love left. Turning to God in such a world is difficult and horrifying. Despite this, Kathy Sabol pushes for people to join her in finding comfort within God’s arms in her newest EP, Speak To Me.
Kathy Sabol is a songwriter from Pittsburgh, PA, who has been crafting songs since the eighth grade. In 2020, she began connecting with other independent artists, eventually creating her first album, The Great Divide, by 2022. Sabol continues to challenge and encourage others and herself to set the bar higher and exceed expectations. Speak To Me, released in July 2026, was inspired by a life-threatening autoimmune illness that challenged Sabol’s faith, health, and future. This EP shares her tale of learning to trust God through the hardest times.
God is the ultimate comfort when struggling through insecurities and pain. The titular song “Speak To Me” shares this message with simple but effective lyrics. The piano is light at first, but builds as the song goes on. That, combined with a stable beat that’s as stable as God himself, causes the entire song to feel warm. The ending, with the instruments becoming louder and the words getting more desperate, creates a sense of drama and desperation that locks in your attention throughout.
In a world like ours, falling into sin is easier than ever. Still, the guilt remains, and it can make the pain so much worse. However, it is guilt that leads one to God. On “Rescue Me,” Kathy Sabol is begging to be saved just like many religious figures in the Bible. Desperation clings to every word, with haunting harmonies adding to the idea that these feelings are not singular. The entire song is incredibly dramatic, culminating in an electric guitar solo that sounds like it should be in a rock song. The end, with the male voice representing God, shows all sins are forgiven, proving that Jesus understands sin and pain and will be by the guilty every step of the way.

The final song of the EP, “Jigsaw,” doesn’t sound as dramatic as the previous tunes, but that doesn’t make its message any less important. The song details how while life is hard like a puzzle, God can help put everything together. The soft voice used for the song creates an almost Disney sound, feeling like a quiet moment after a storm. It’s a song of acceptance and determination with God’s grace behind you. The strings and piano are a comforting presence throughout the song, making a safe space for all who need it.
Humanity as a whole is a difficult species. We all fail, we all hurt each other, and we all go through pain that seems unbearable. However, with God, anything is possible. If Sabol was able to find security even when faced with a life-threatening disease, it is possible for all of us. Speak To Me provides a message we all need to hear in such trying times.
