The new video/track from Down North is just a little too much in all the right ways.
A little ska, a little sass and a big brave vocalist with a gleefully distinctive range (think Michael Jackson, but with a punky edge) get shaken up with a touch of heartbreak and some bold crashing drums to take on the age-old enemy: cupid.
Granted, snorting candy hearts and wrecking days doesn’t make the video’s cupid all that intimidating — he’s a comically pudgy, high-topped trouble maker, and he doesn’t stand a chance.
A playfully fun, old-time black and white intro (complete with silent movie soundtrack sample) sandwiches the video production, adding an extra layer of quirk and style to our “Champion’s” story that doesn’t go unnoticed. It’s not news that love is a battlefield, are we right?
“Fuck love / yeah I said it,” cuts straight from Anthony Briscoe’s addictive voice to everyone who’s ever been dumped ever, like ever, and the band’s backdrop of Southern grit, stylish guitar and zero-fucks-given vibe take the track straight to our cold, cold hearts.
Oh, and maybe a big fat yes to belting it out in the car/dancing around the house in our underwear, too.
