IBG Interview – 8 Questions With… Benzo Dro

Benzo Dro

One of the most important parts of being a successful artist is having the courage to be yourself. Our latest find Benzo Dro pulls no punches and has no more fucks to give. He lays it all out there for his fans and his haters to see.

We had the chance to chat with him about all of this and more. Enjoy the interview:

First off, where did the name Benzo Dro come from?

The last three letters of my real name is “dro”, so that part seemed appropriate. Plus I smoke a little. I was high when I came up with the benzo part. So, I just put them together. Benzo Dro.

How would you describe your music?

Definitely multi-genre. People who hear it will have to decide the type of music it is.

I don’t even know how to describe it. Its just all emotion. All my music is up for interpretation as well. The listener’s emotions are important to me.

Which artists have been the greatest influence on you?

A lot. Big Pun, Jay-Z, Kanye, Big L, 2pac. A large amount of newer artists that became big in more recent years like X, Lil baby, Lil peep, etc.

But when I was younger, definitely Biggie. He really influenced me on my flow and showing me to say whatever I wanted to over a beat.

What draws you to creating music?

What draws me is to put out my emotions to the world so that whoever is listening has the chance to relate to it. Because I usually want the songs that I listen to, to not only sound fire, but hearing words that sound like what I would have said.

We hear you have a new single coming out in May. What can you tell us about it?

It’s a high energy, intense type of song. With the perfect beat that really fit my mood at the time of recording it. I felt crazy, angry, and couldn’t shut up. So I recorded “SPLASH”.

How does a song come to you? What is your songwriting process?

I really just start writing anything. For no reason. like very random thoughts that don’t always make sense but ill grab a phrase off of that sometimes and keep a certain rhyme pattern going or a stanza depending on what type of song I want it to be.

What advice would you give to other artists experimenting with mixed genres?

People say this way too much but just be yourself, and whatever comes to your mind, do something with it. Write it somewhere, record it on your phone, anything. Practice every style. I personally don’t put too much thought into certain things. That’s when I stop having fun. And when I’m not having fun I can’t create music that i’m satisfied with.

Where is Benzo Dro next year at this time?

Well, i’m aiming to release my first debut album by that time. So, just doing shows and maybe have a clothing brand. I’m waiting for the perfect time for that.

But if i’m not dead, or lose all 5 of my senses, then i’ll still be making music regardless.
