17 HERO feels like magic with Morgan Saint’s lush lyrical poetry that takes you to another world. Her warm delivery of vocals and dreamy instrumentation add to the dreamscape pop that plops you down in Saint’s magical world.
Morgan Saint Finds her Audience
The opening track, “You”, was released two months ago and has found over 1.2 million streams and counting. The honest lyrics drag you into the moody pop world that Saint has built around her music. The major debut that “You” brought added to her big break on Australia’s Triple J. “You” brings a memorable performance vocally from Saint that opens the EP on a strong note and draws you in for the entire length of 17 HERO.
Triple J also launched Lorde from down under. Meaning Saint has big shoes to fill in the moody dream pop world that had been paved before her. Besides “You”, each song on 17 HERO competes head on with Lorde’s entire Melodrama album that released this summer.
“Glass House” brings a lighter feel to Saint’s dreamscape that is 17 HERO. Her voice floats over the almost airy synth background making it feel like a dream with the flow. It has a bouncy elements that pulls you to an out of body experience to a magical pop land. The simplicity in the track made me click repeat over and over.
Bringing it back to Lorde, if you liked “Perfect Places” you’ll love “New Regime”. The last track on 17 HERO brings all of Saint’s strengths together into one track. Instrumentation-wise it’s one of the most complex on the album. While elements like percussion are kept pretty simple, the cascading synth riffs over a deeper buzzing melody brings the best pop elements all together.
