We are all well aware of the dramatic changes the music industry has gone through over the last several years. The old model is dead and a new way to reach the fans and make a profit must be realized. An artist with a fresh take on getting his music out there is the next successful one. A good example is Mr. Kito.

Mr. Kito

Mr. Kito is the brainchild and solo project of Eric Michot. Eric is a French multi-instrumentalist and producer living in Cape Town since 1996. He has been around the local indie music scene for years but only began writing and recording his own songs back in 2012. Instead of the standard tactics of searching for a record label and trying to make money right off the bat with his music Mr, Kito chose an alternate route. He pushed his music out there for free on as many online platforms as he could find. Sales were an afterthought. The plan has worked as he has been gaining fans at a rapid pace worldwide. His music is now playlisting on 4 Japanese FM radios, 5 French FM radios, Sweden’s alternative station, Radio Andra, Network Radio and Assembly Radio in South Africa, and NETRADIO Radio from France, Russia and Belgium.

On February 24th, 2014 Mr Kito released his 7th album Where Are The Lizards? through Presence Records. On the 6 track EP he shows off his skills on many different instruments and his ability to create a groove. Right from the opener “In The Colour Of Your Eyes” sets the tone that this is a record very different from what is on popular radio today. The seemingly random noises all find their spot in the musical landscape to please the ears. On the title track “Where Are The Lizards?” Mr Kito’s haunting vocal style seeps into your brain as the minimalistic yet difficult drum beat powers the song forward. The experimental “All Is Near” again throws noise at the listener from all angles filling the soundscape with an eclectic mix. This is an album for people who can appreciate music made in an innovative way. These fans are ravenous for more. Keep up with Mr. Kito at: http://www.mrkito.co.za/
