The road to a career in music is rarely very straight. Often times fate must step in and change your path to get you to where you should be going. Accept it and success can be yours. The story of Ted West brings this thought to mind.
Born in Chicago. Illinois the talented artist went through New York and Los Angeles aiming for a career as a stage actor. The roles varied but Ted West always had something else in his pocket, a fantastic voice. After accompanying a then girlfriend to some of the top LA recording studios, Ted was asked to sing and the voice was discovered. The base of his music career goes back further than that though. Ted West has carried around a book full of his poetry since his teen years. These poems have now become the basis for his songwriting and a new direction has been set.
On October 27th Ted West will release his album True West. The 11 track record shows off his personal style without necessarily trying for commercial success. This freedom rings right from the opener “California” where the full atmosphere of sound mixes with Ted’s up and down vocal technique. The soul comes out on “Sweet Soul Survivor” as the mood slows down and the focus is on the groove and sultry sound. The lead single “Bittersweet Descent” shows some true musicality. The sonic landscape is filled with a dark atmospheric background putting the listener in a completely relaxed state to enjoy the lyrical play of Ted West. The closer “Crystal Ship” strips it all down for a ballad-type take that will draw in any fans that appreciate the power of a good voice.
