Typhoid Rosie is ‘Sailing On’ in Gritty New Single

Typhoid Rosie

Described as having a gritty and rebellious sound, Brooklyn-based band Typhoid Rosie is unapologetically loud in their search for unity. With two successful records under their belt, they’ve developed a signature sound and a momentum that’s propelling them forward into a third album release.

This is Now will be out March 23, but you can catch a glimpse of what it will hold with their new single, “Sailing On.”

Typhoid Rosie’s “Sailing On” is Inspired By Homer’s The Odyssey

“Sailing On” hails from interesting origins, as the members of Typhoid Rosie are often influenced by a great variety of topics.

In The Odyssey, Odysseus is faced with a long journey home, marked by many different struggles. He overcomes many obstacles, from temptations to the angry waves of Poseidon, always driven by his memories and the desire to return home.

For Typhoid Rosie, this old story of perseverance and motivation was powerful — and relatable.

“When I wrote this song, I thought about life and all the things in it that are worth fighting for,” front-woman Rosie Rebel explained. “But more than that, the song is about ‘us’ and how we should fight for it together. When we work together, there’s nothing humanity can’t accomplish.”

Musically, “Sailing On” is driven by heavy punk-influenced guitar chords and an ever-present rhythm in the drums. The melodies serve as an interesting contrast, with a poppy, anthem-like quality. Separately, punk and pop are on opposite ends of the spectrum. When Typhoid Rosie mashes them together, it works.

This is Now is the follow up to 2015’s Hearts Bleed Goodbye, a well-received record that garnered a lot of buzz around Typhoid Rosie.

After countless features, in Paste Magazine, Buzzfeed, and the Huffington Post, to name a few, Typhoid Rosie has made a name for themselves. It’s safe to say that This is Now is highly anticipated, and going by “Sailing On” as any indication, it won’t disappoint.
