In this crazy world of independent music sometimes it is best to not take yourself too seriously. It seems like our recent find SUPERBIG fully understands that. The impressive rock band from Chicago, Illinois has a fun new video out for their song “Sideways Love” full of debauchery. We caught up with the band to get a little of their charm and a look at what makes them tick. Enjoy the interview here:
What prompted the selection of the name SUPERBIG?
AC/DC was already taken.
How would you describe your sound?
Like a Gourmet Big Mac
What bands have acted as influences for your music?
The Beatles, Damien Rice, The Killers, The Strokes
Many great alternative rock bands have come from Chicago. What is the current state of the scene there?
Like hookers with a heart of gold. What was the question again?
How does a song come together for SUPERBIG?
2 ounces of whiskey, 3 ounces of desperation, a cube of addiction, with a twist-ed love
Tell us about the making of your video for ‘Sideways Love’
It was something that was really great to do. We want to thank Steve Harris who let us film and party in his bar Debonair Social Club all night, the wonderful girls (oh my god, make sure you watch) who performed in the video, Phil Goode who directed it and hair stylist Mario Szmigiel, makeup artist Chrisanthi Christos from C’est La V Hair Salon and their love of Ziggy Stardust.
What advice would you give to other bands creating real rock music?
No matter what happens, keep going. And remember the number one commandment, don’t be an asshole.
What is next on the horizon for SUPERBIG?
More touring, more writing, and more recording.
Keep up with the band on their WEBSITE.
