Higgnz Takes Us Home With ‘Brackish’

Higgnz

Even with the music world becoming smaller and more connected there is something special about an artist that celebrates his locale. Instead of boasting of world travels and unrealistic lifestyles our recent discovery Higgnz sticks to what he knows and his love for his region.

The rising hip-hop star truly loves and support his home state of Louisiana, in particular, St. Bernard Parish, better known as Da’ Parish. The rich culture and history of his birthplace have been a major influence on his writing style. Higgnz has been involved in the hip-hop scene for almost 20 years through a variety of different crews such as KawCajun, C.P.C. (Cross Parish Connect), and Sol Trybe. This experience has become vital in his development.

Now as a solo artist Higgnz puts out a style of Southern party rap that also melds in rock, country, and blues style beats. With his lyrics, he dives into the everyday struggles of the real man, especially those in his area of the Deep South.

Last month saw the release of Brackish, the first true solo album by Higgnz. The 7 track record ties together the old school party vibe with a modern rap/rock attitude. The title track “Brackish” leads off the record with true high energy lyricism, wailing guitars, and in your face attitude. Prepare for a wild ride.

Some real diversity os heard on “White Boot Warrior.” We are treated to a country vibe that slows it down a little and lets the listener focus on the imagery of the vocals. On “Lagniappe” we are all welcome down for some southern hospitality. Higgnz brags of his hometown and the party town that most people can only imagine.

We take another turn on “Gun Control” with an almost creepy beat that leaves the listener questioning everything. There are always real meanings in Higgnz’ lyrics as he puts his real thoughts into his music. For the closer “Walk The Line” it seems to all come together as the in your face rap is over a mellow rocking beat that could fit into any musical genre just fine.

Connect with Higgnz on FaceBook or Twitter to stay in the loop for more high energy music.
