IBG Interview – 8 Questions With… LATENIGHTJACE

LATENIGHTJACE

Some people are just meant to live a life based around the Arts. This certain mindset is what makes the world a beautiful place. Creativity abounds. Our recent discovery LATENIGHTJACE has his toes in a few different avenues and hopes to create happiness for the world with his artistic talents.

We caught up with the unique songwriter/rapper/producer/fashion designer for a quick chat. Enjoy the interview here:

First off, how did the name LATENIGHTJACE come to be?

Well the LATENIGHT part just came from me waiting to use darker sounds. Or something a person would play when it’s late out. Jason is my middle name so I just cut that short and used JACE. Then bam, there was my artist name.

How would you describe your sound?

My sound can be described as dark melodic trap at times. But I can even make pop & R&B driven melodies that seem to work. I usually like to use a beat that has some dark 808s. I get my best melodies over beats like that. It’s perfect for my vocal range.

Which artists have had the biggest influence on you?

I grew up listening to mostly Drake. That’s why I’m not afraid to show emotions in my music. But a few other big influences are Kanye, Cudi, and XXXTENTACION. They all are able to create dope melodies. That’s something that I’m really big on.

Tell us about how a song comes together for you? What is your songwriting process?

First I have to find a beat that fits the mood for the song. It all depends on if I’m trying to make a banger or something that can really put you in your feelings. Once I find the beat I begin to write. My favorite part about the songwriting process has to be making the chorus. Making sure that it really sticks with the listener. I usually name the song last.

What do you hope the listener will take away from a LATENIGHTJACE track?

I just want my listeners to be happy. If I make a song about heartbreak or trying to get over a girl. I want them to be able to relate. Like they are not the only one that’s going threw it. I want them to feel like they are not alone.

You seem to be involved in different sides of the entertainment industry with songwriting, production, and even fashion design. What draws you to the Arts?

I studied fashion design in college and I was surrounded by the arts 24/7. So being around other people that was all about art, really shaped me to be who I am today. The arts can capture any mood. Being sad, angry, or even feeling confident. I feel like no other industry allows you to do that. You kind of have to put up a front to be deemed acceptable in other people’s eyes in many different industries. Arts allows you to be who you want to be. Music is just another way I express myself. I got into production my 12th grade year in high school and that followed into the rest of my life. When I found out I can make a sound that just fits me I was blown away & loved it ever since.

Share some advice for other artistic people looking to create a living in the Arts?

Just be yourself, if your emo, gothic, or just an ordinary person don’t let society mold you into something that your not. That’ll cause you to be unhappy and limit you from living your best life. I just want anyone that follows my journey to be themselves. Be the best version of yourself.

What does the future hold for LATENIGHTJACE?

The future is bright. I’ve been working on new music. I’m very pleased in the way it’s been turning out. I’ve been leaning towards an alternative sound. But that might change eventually. I plan on releasing a few more singles before I drop my next EP. There’s a few other artists that I really want to collaborate with in the future. It just all about the timing.
