Born and raised in Detroit, K Sloan was influenced and entranced by soul legends and Motown stars at an early age. These influences are clearly heard on “STAY,” combining classic Motown vibes and features with an unexpected modern twist.
“STAY” features a traditional soul rhythm section- Moog synthesizer, organ, bass and drums. The simple bass lines and grooving drum beats that provide a simple backdrop for Sloan’s powerful and captivating vocals.

Modern instrumentation, such as a sitar, horns, tambourine, and full string quartet, amplifies Sloan’s unique vocals on the track. Sloan’s take on retro soul cannot be missed because of these influences.
“STAY” starts off with a wall of sound, influenced by the Beach Boys and various 60s songs. The song is continuously this intense, only pausing for a few seconds between chorus and verse for added anticipation.
The track premiered on Afropunk, who praised Sloan and her unique take on retro sounds.

Sloan is preparing for her upcoming EP, “Blank Pages,” set to release spring 2017. “STAY” was the first single released off the EP, In late January 2017.
“STAY” shows off Sloan as a strong musician and what to anticipate on hearing from her on upcoming release of “Blank Pages”. “STAY” features diverse instrumentation and appreciation for the roots can only be heightened on the upcoming EP.
