Patiently Awaiting the Meteorite Start The Party ‘Electrified’

Patiently Awaiting the Meteorite

The first single from Patiently Awaiting the Meteorite is “Electrified.” It is off their impending first studio release, a full-length effort entitled Canyon Diablo, and will likely usher the trio behind this unit to unprecedented levels of acclaim and public notice. Comprised of producers and musicians Dee and The Grand Brothers, the association between these artists began when the Grand Brothers produced and help shepherd Dee’s second solo album, Day by Day, to completion and the trio decided to form this unit.

The first single from their efforts is a wholly individual expression that’s both modern, yet retro, in the same breath and crackles with top shelf production values far outstripping similar efforts from their peers. Patiently Awaiting the Meteorite has strong attributes for both pop lovers and the dance floor, but there’s likewise ample substance beneath the surface gloss that marks them as distinctly different fare from your typical act in this vein.

The musical arrangement surges with ample muscle and musicality alike. There’s no real melody here, per se, but it’s an immensely likable track from the first thanks to how Dee and, particularly, the Grand Brothers frame this song on a grand scale and come romping out of the gate with a sense of confidence and fun. The song title is such that embracing formula would be an easy route for Patiently Awaiting the Meteorite to take, but they never do; instead, “Electrified” comes pushing forward with a real sense of self and personality that’s far different than your typical cookie cutter pop tunes of this ilk and a listener finishes this three minute and change tune certain that other efforts on Canyon Diablo will follow its lead.

The array of instruments employed to make this tune work are relatively narrow, but it isn’t a song or style demanding a wide assortment of musical instruments. Instead, the brawling rhythm section and bubbling synthesizer lines more than carry the instrumental side of the performance the Grand Brothers are sure to emphasize all of the track’s musical strengths.

Dee’s vocal is the song’s crowning achievement and his spot on perfect invocation of the song’s time-tested lyrical message makes an even greater difference in its ultimate success. He has an emotive yowl or yelp in many of the song’s lines, particularly near the end of each one, and knows exactly how to modulate his voice to make the most of the chorus and his overall interplay with the track.

He, as well, has tremendous presence as a vocalist and never has to attempt dominating the song; instead, he’s comfortable and confident enough in the song’s merits and his own talents that he relaxes instead of exerting more muscle and treating the tune like some aural bull in a china shop. Modern pop music rarely comes as good or better than this and Patiently Awaiting the Meteorite clearly established what they wanted to accomplish with this track, and likely others, before even committing it to a recording. “Electrified” is one of the year’s more memorable efforts from any genre and promises much to come.
