Music and the people that create it will constantly evolve. There is a beauty to that. This growth will help keep music fresh and moving forward. The artists that are willing to do this will keep that joy. Our recent discovery Replaced By Robots (formerly The Elevator Drops) takes influences from all over the sonic map to build something that is truly fresh and truly their own.
Replaced By Robots keeps it short and sweet in their debut EP The Experiment. This new mini-album claims to be “for modern humans with limited attention spans” catering to the era of short-form content. The aptly named project touches on many genres and refuses to be defined by a single musical idea; their free spirits go where the music takes them.
Featured as the first track is their single “The Laboratory”. The drumbeat drives the spirit of the song with a buzzing surf-punk guitar riff that could be found playing from a boombox on a California beach. The vocals blend right into the drone of guitar texture for a fun, dancey opening to the EP.

The best songs are even better live, and it’s hard not to picture a crowd echoing back their own harmonies on “ALL THE LONELY NIGHTS”. The chorus captures you immediately as an instantly catchy call and response. Between the main vocals and three voices coming together for the melody, it’s almost hypnotically captivating and memorable.
We can see the picture start to form a story trailing from lonely nights to the dance of figuring out a potential relationship with someone on “Are We Falling In Love Or Am I Just Losing My Mind?” The song is a product of lead Goolkasian working with the production of John Hager from Devo. There’s an element of pop, but not in a modern sense — it would fit right into a classic glam 80s movie.
The eerie tension of “THE AIR OF UNCERTAINTY” captures the liminal feeling of floating within the throes of love and relationships following the fourth track. The soundscape navigates the feeling of in-between, giving way perfectly into the exciting visuals evoked by “Since You Broke My Ouija Board”.
Overall The Experiment by Replaced By Robots is a dynamic and engaging EP that embraces genre fluidity for diverse audiences. It moves from surf-punk energy to the infectious chorus of “Lonely Nights”. Further through we’re offered nostalgic pop vibes reminiscent of classic glam rock and eerie atmospheres. The EP explores emotional highs and lows with varied musical textures, successfully capturing the fleeting and complex nature of contemporary life.
