Winchester 7 & The Runners Share the Story of ‘The Saint Simon Killer’

Winchester 7 & The Runners

Music is often hard to describe in words. We can get an idea in our head of what we will hear when we are told of the influences or the instruments involved but nothing can replace the sounds reaching your ears. An open mind will often discover the most amazing music. Our recent discovery Winchester 7 & The Runners is one such band that needed to be heard to understand.

It seems that the multi-national group was somewhat destined to come together to form their unique sound. Comprised of Phil Voorhees (bass) from Amsterdam, Jack Kane (drums) from the United Kingdom, and Winchester 7 (vocals, ukelele) from Atlanta, Georgia, the band puts out a blend of indie garage rock with alternative, classic, and surf influences. Obviously the ukelele brings something different to the fray but upon the first time playing together, they knew they were on to something.

The latest single by Winchester 7 & The Runners is the interesting “The Saint Simon Killer”. For this one, the boys brought in the legendary mixing skills of Stuart Epps (Elton John, Led Zeppelin, George Harrison, etc). This professionalism can be heard right away as the sounds meld perfectly into a full sonic landscape. The ukelele sits well along some innovative atmospheric sounds creeping in the background giving it a truly unique tone. The vocals draw the listener in close as a slightly dark vibe of the story is felt. This is powerful music from an interesting group of musicians.
