Anyone who has read these pages over the years knows how much I appreciate the classic real sounds of music of the past. There will always be something about those warm analog sounds and the songwriting style. Our recent discovery DownTown Mystic also seems to hold a candle for that vintage sound on their new album The Wish.

The band is the brainchild of Robert Allen. His passion for “vintage yet modern” sound and “old School” recording is what pushes DownTown Mystic forward. He has recruited amazing talent for this project including drummer extraordinaire Steve Holley (Paul McCartney/Wings/Elton John) and urban legend Paul Page (Dion/Ian Hunter) on bass, as well as one of the great rhythm sections in the history of American Rock’n’Roll in Garry Tallent & Max Weinberg of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band.

New album The Wish isn’t about reinventing the wheel; it’s about giving that classic rock ‘n’ roll wheel a fresh spin, and doing it with a whole lot of heart and energy. This album is a throwback in the best possible way, channeling the spirit of the ’70s and early ’80s rock giants while still feeling undeniably modern.

From the opening big drums and strummed chords of lead track “The Wish” the raw, driving sound hits you right away. An easy going track that drips with emotion and real storytelling. Big sound with an Americana grit. “One More Chance” continues that vibe with purpose. Layers of sound fill the speakers with real feeling.

The bluesy “Shade Of White” shows off the diversity of DownTown Mystic while still staying in that vintage time of music. The guitars are extraordinary here with fills that demand attention. I have a feeling seeing this song performed live would be a masterpiece in classic rock aura. The big sound of “History” has a similar feel with some piano leading the groove.

The album is packed with catchy hooks, powerful guitar riffs, and a rhythm section that knows how to lay down a solid, unwavering groove. The vocals are delivered with a gravelly intensity that perfectly complements the music’s raw energy. There’s a sense of urgency and excitement in every track, making you want to crank up the volume and hit the open road.

While the album is rooted in classic rock, DownTown Mystic isn’t afraid to experiment with subtle variations within the genre. You’ll hear hints of blues, folk, and even a touch of emotional pop, adding depth and texture to the overall sound.

Final Verdict:

DownTown Mystic’s The Wish is a powerful and satisfying rock ‘n’ roll album that delivers exactly what it promises. It’s a nostalgic trip back to a golden era of music, but it’s also a testament to the enduring power of a great song played with passion and conviction. If you’re looking for an album that will make you want to crank up the volume and feel the energy of classic rock at its’ best this album is definitely worth a listen.
